Journal ArticleDOI
Overexpression of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma.
Katsuya Shiraki,Kazushi Sugimoto,Yutaka Yamanaka,Yumi Yamaguchi,Yukiko Saitou,Keiichi Ito,Norihiko Yamamoto,Takenari Yamanaka,Katsuhiko Fujikawa,Kazumoto Murata,Takeshi Nakano +10 more
TL;DR: Results indicated that XI AP is a principal inhibitor of apoptosis overexpressed in human HCCs and that XIAP may be a potential target for gene therapy of human H CCs.
Journal ArticleDOI
COX-2 inhibitors sensitize human hepatocellular carcinoma cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis
Yutaka Yamanaka,Katsuya Shiraki,Tomoko Inoue,Kazumi Miyashita,Hiroyuki Fuke,Yumi Yamaguchi,Norihiko Yamamoto,Keiichi Ito,Kazushi Sugimoto,Takeshi Nakano +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that COX-2 inhibitors can induce apoptosis and augment TRAIL sensitivity by up-regulation of TRAIL receptors and down- regulation of both survivin and AKT signaling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of human and swine hepatitis E virus (HEV) isolates of genotype 3 in Japan that are only 81-83 % similar to reported HEV isolates of the same genotype over the entire genome.
TL;DR: The UK-isolate-like HEV strains in Japan may have originated from the UK via the importation of pigs since 1900, and are close to Spanish isolates according to their partial sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proteasome inhibition sensitizes hepatocellular carcinoma cells to TRAIL by suppressing caspase inhibitors and AKT pathway.
Tomoko Inoue,Katsuya Shiraki,Hiroyuki Fuke,Yutaka Yamanaka,Kazumi Miyashita,Yumi Yamaguchi,Norihiko Yamamoto,Keiichi Ito,Kazushi Sugimoto,Takeshi Nakano +9 more
TL;DR: Combining proteasome inhibitors with a TRAIL agonist may provide a new therapeutic strategy for HCC, as both inhibitors induced apoptosis and augmented TRAIL sensitivity via both the IAP family and AKT pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of sporadic acute hepatitis E and comparison of hepatitis E virus genomes in acute hepatitis patients and pig liver sold as food in Mie, Japan
Hiroshi Okano,Masaharu Takahashi,Yoshiaki Isono,Hiroki Tanaka,Tatsunori Nakano,Yumi Oya,Kazushi Sugimoto,Keiichi Ito,Shigeru Ohmori,Tadashi Maegawa,Makoto Kobayashi,Shigeo Nagashima,Tsutomu Nishizawa,Hiroaki Okamoto +13 more
TL;DR: To characterize hepatitis E in Mie prefecture and to investigate whether raw pig liver sold as food in MIE is contaminated with hepatitis E virus (HEV) strains similar to those recovered from patients, data is collected on patients recovered from hospitals.
