Journal ArticleDOI

Risk assessment of environmental mixture effects

TL;DR: A review of the current challenges facing the assessment of mixture effects and examines future areas of focus that seek to develop methodologies more suitable for environmental mixtures can be found in this article, where the authors show why accurate risk assessment of mixtures is vital by demonstrating the effect they can have on organisms in the environment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Imaging cervical cytology with scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) coupled with an IR-FEL

TL;DR: Scanning near-field optical microscopy, in combination with an infrared free electron laser (SNOM-IR-FEL), is able to distinguish between normal and squamous low-grade and high-grade dyskaryosis, and betweennormal and mixed squamous/glandular pre-invasive and adenocarcinoma cervical lesions, at designated wavelengths associated with DNA, Amide I/II and lipids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mid-infrared spectroscopic assessment of nanotoxicity in gram-negative vs. gram-positive bacteria.

TL;DR: Vibrational spectroscopy approaches may provide a novel means of fingerprinting the effects of CBNs in target cells by extracting biochemical alterations induced by each CBN that were consistent across the two bacterial species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Levels of Organochlorine Pesticides Are Associated with Amyloid Aggregation in Apex Avian Brains.

TL;DR: In this paper, the brain of wild Sparrowhawks was analyzed using ATR-FTIR and Raman spectroscopy and Congo red staining; results were correlated with OC pesticide concentrations in livers.
