Journal ArticleDOI
Observer variability in echo-Doppler measurements of portal flow in cirrhotic patients and normal volunteers.
Carlo Sabbà,Gregory G. Weltin,Gregory G. Weltin,Domenic V. Cicchetti,Domenic V. Cicchetti,Giovanna Ferraioli,Giovanna Ferraioli,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Nakamura T,Nakamura T,Nakamura T,Fuminori Moriyasu,Fuminori Moriyasu,Fuminori Moriyasu,Roberto J. Groszmann,Roberto J. Groszmann +16 more
TL;DR: The use of the echo-Doppler technique mainly for the determination of rapid and large changes in portal hemodynamics within a short period of time is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized study of propranolol on postprandial portal hyperemia in cirrhotic patients
Carlo Sabbà,Carlo Sabbà,Carlo Sabbà,Giovanna Ferraioli,Giovanna Ferraioli,Giovanna Ferraioli,P Buonamico,P Buonamico,P Buonamico,Thomas Mahl,Thomas Mahl,Thomas Mahl,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Emanuel Lerner,Emanuel Lerner,Emanuel Lerner,Ottavio Albano,Ottavio Albano,Ottavio Albano,Roberto J. Groszmann,Roberto J. Groszmann,Roberto J. Groszmann +23 more
TL;DR: In propranolol-treated patients the absolute value of blood flow after the meal was lower than in placebo- treated patients, which may constitute a protective effect of proprolol in portal hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Doppler ultrasound in the evaluation of cirrhotic patients: The prevalence of intrahepatic arteriovenous shunting, and implications for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
Caroline R. Taylor,Caroline R. Taylor,Guadelupe Garcia-Tsao,Guadelupe Garcia-Tsao,Bonnie Henson,Cara Q. Case,Kenneth J.W. Taylor,Kenneth J.W. Taylor +7 more
TL;DR: Doppler US is useful in characterizing liver lesions in cirrhotic patients: the majority of malignant hepatic lesions are associated with AVS and specificity for malignancy increases with shunt velocity, however, isolated AVS or AVS associated with focal fat may be detected in 7.8% of compensated cirrhotics.
