A note on determining viable economic states in a dynamic model of taxation
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply viability theory to the dynamic tax model to identify which economic states today are sustainable under only slightly constrained tax-rate adjustments in the future, when the dynamic budget constraint and the consumers' transversality condition at infinity are satisfied.

Nonlinear Programming Method for Dynamic Programming
TL;DR: A nonlinear programming formulation is introduced to solve infinite-horizon dynamic programming problems by using ideas from approximation theory to approximate value functions and avoids inefficient discretization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimal rules for patent races
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study the optimal combination of two important patent race rules: minimal accomplishment necessary to receive the patent and the allocation of the innovation benefits, and show that efficiency cost of prizes is a key consideration.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Nonlinear Certainty Equivalent Approximation Method for Dynamic Stochastic Problems
TL;DR: In this paper, a nonlinear certainty-equivalent approximation method for dynamic stochastic problems is proposed. But it is not suitable for solving complex economic problems, where other algorithms, such as loglinearization, fail to produce a valid global approximation or are far less tractable.
