Scientific Opinion addressing the state of the science on risk assessment of plant protection products for in-soil organisms
Colin Ockleford,Paulien Adriaanse,Philippe Berny,Theodorus Brock,Sabine Duquesne,Sandro Grilli,Antonio F Hernandez-Jerez,Susanne Hougaard Bennekou,Michael Klein,Thomas Kuhl,Ryszard Laskowski,Kyriaki Machera,Olavi Pelkonen,Silvia Pieper,Michael Stemmer,Ingvar Sundh,Ivana Teodorovic,Aaldrik Tiktak,Christopher J. Topping,Gerrit Wolterink,Peter S. Craig,Frank de Jong,Barbara Manachini,Paulo Sousa,Klaus Swarowsky,Domenica Auteri,Maria Arena,Smith Rob +27 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that in‐soil environmental risk assessments are made at in‐ and off‐field scale considering field boundary levels, and a new testing strategy which takes into account the relevant exposure routes for in‐ soil organisms and the potential direct and indirect effects is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards a landscape scale management of pesticides: ERA using changes in modelled occupancy and abundance to assess long-term population impacts of pesticides
Christopher J. Topping,Peter S. Craig,Frank de Jong,Michael Klein,Ryszard Laskowski,Barbara Manachini,Silvia Pieper,Robert H. Smith,José Paulo Sousa,Franz Streissl,Klaus Swarowsky,Aaldrik Tiktak,Ton van der Linden +12 more
TL;DR: The landscape and population ERA approach demonstrates that there is a potential to change from regulation of a pesticide in isolation, towards the consideration of pesticide management at landscape scales and provision of biodiversity benefits via inclusion and testing of mitigation measures in authorisation procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposal of critical appraisal tools for the evaluation of ecotoxicology studies
Joost Lahr,Gertie Arts,Sabine Duquesne,Vanessa Mazerolles,Caroline T. A. Moermond,Urwa Alalouni,E. Baujard,Bas Buddendorf,K. Mahieu,Mark Montforts,Els Smit,Rob van Spronsen,Klaus Swarowsky,Silvia Pieper +13 more
TL;DR: The Critical Appraisal Tools (CATs) as mentioned in this paper were developed to support the evaluation of seven types of non-standard higher tier higher tier ecotoxicity studies submitted with these dossiers (for both aquatic and terrestrial risk assessment: aquatic organisms, bees, non-target arthropods other than bees, birds and mammals).
