Journal ArticleDOI
Design and research potential of interactive textbooks: the case of fractions
TL;DR: The ALICE:fractions project as discussed by the authors is an interactive mathematics textbook for introducing fractions in the classroom, which is based on research in mathematics education and includes the elements just mentioned.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Comparison of Self-Reports and Electrodermal Activity as Indicators of Mathematics State Anxiety. An Application of the Control-Value Theory.
TL;DR: This article found no significant relation between trait mathematics anxiety and physiological state anxiety, but a significant, negative three-way interaction effect with control and value, but only in the presence of negative perceived control and positive perceived value.
Journal Article
Expert mathematicians' strategies for comparing the numerical values of fractions – evidence from eye movements
Andreas Obersteiner,Gabriele Moll,Jana Beitlich,Chen Cui,Maria Schmidt,Tetiana Khmelivska,Kristina Reiss +6 more
TL;DR: Eye movements are used for the first time to test if this method allows distinguishing strategy use on specific problem types in expert mathematicians and found the expected fixation differences between numerators and denominators in problems with common components but not in problems without common components.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analyzing prospective mathematics teachers’ diagnostic processes in a simulated environment
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a simulated computer-based environment that allows assessing and promoting the diagnostic processes of prospective primary school teachers, where virtual third-graders solve mathematical problems and participants are asked to diagnose the students' competence levels according to a theoretical model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluating school inspection effectiveness: A systematic research synthesis on 30 years of international research
TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized research on school inspection of the last 30 years to provide an estimation of its effectiveness and to identify factors influencing inspection effectiveness, including accountability pressure and the perceived quality of the inspection.
