Testing Comptonisation models using BeppoSAX observations of Seyfert 1 galaxies
P.-O. Petrucci,Francesco Haardt,L. Maraschi,Paola Grandi,Julien Malzac,Giorgio Matt,Fabrizio Nicastro,L. Piro,G. C. Perola,A. de Rosa +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used high quality BeppoSAX data of 6 Seyfert galaxies to test realistic thermal Comptonization models, taking into account the anisotropy of the soft photon field.
Journal ArticleDOI
On the origin of the γ-ray emission from the flaring blazar PKS 1222+216
Fabrizio Tavecchio,J. Becerra-Gonzalez,J. Becerra-Gonzalez,Gabriele Ghisellini,Antonio Stamerra,G. Bonnoli,Luigi Foschini,L. Maraschi +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the high-energy emission from the compact blob is dominated by the inverse Compton scattering of the infrared thermal radiation of the dusty torus, and that both regions are matter-dominated with the Poynting flux providing a negligible contribution to the total jet power.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Survey of Extended Radio Jets in Active Galactic Nuclei with Chandra and the Hubble Space Telescope: First Results
Rita M. Sambruna,L. Maraschi,Fabrizio Tavecchio,C. Megan Urry,C. C. Cheung,George Chartas,Riccardo Scarpa,J. K. Gambill +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first results from an X-ray and optical survey of a sample of radio jets in active galactic nuclei with Chandra and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) were presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complex Spectral Variability from Intensive Multi-wavelength Monitoring of Mrk421 in 1998
Tadayuki Takahashi,Jun Kataoka,G. M. Madejski,J. R. Mattox,C. M. Urry,Stephan Wagner,Felix Aharonian,M. Catanese,L. Chiappetti,Paolo De Coppi,B. Degrange,Giovanni Fossati,Hidetoshi Kubo,Henric Krawczynski,F. Makino,Herman L. Marshall,L. Maraschi,F. Piron,Ron Remillard,Fumio Takahara,Makoto Tashiro,H. Teräsranta,T. C. Weekes +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a multi-frequency campaign for the TeV blazar Mrk~421 in 1998 April, and the results showed that the variability amplitudes in the low energy synchrotron component are larger at higher photon energies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hard TeV spectra of blazars and the constraints to the infrared intergalactic background
TL;DR: In this article, a simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton model was proposed to explain the hard spectrum of the blazar 1ES 1101−232 (redshift z = 0.186).
