Journal ArticleDOI
Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications: A Perspective on Synthesis, Drugs, Antimicrobial Activity, and Toxicity.
Laís Salomão Arias,Juliano Pelim Pessan,Ana Paula Miranda Vieira,Taynara Maria Toito de Lima,Alberto Carlos Botazzo Delbem,Douglas Roberto Monteiro +5 more
TL;DR: This review highlights the methods of synthesis and presents the most recent reports in the literature regarding advances in drug delivery using IONPs-based systems, as well as their antimicrobial activity against different microorganisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biofilm formation by Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans in the presence of farnesol: a quantitative evaluation.
RA Fernandes,Douglas Roberto Monteiro,Laís Salomão Arias,GL Fernandes,Alberto Carlos Botazzo Delbem,Debora Barros Barbosa +5 more
TL;DR: The role of farnesol is highlighted as an alternative agent with the potential to reduce the formation of pathogenic biofilms and promotes significant log reductions in the number of CFUs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activity of tyrosol against single and mixed-species oral biofilms.
Laís Salomão Arias,Alberto Carlos Botazzo Delbem,RA Fernandes,Debora Barros Barbosa,Douglas Roberto Monteiro +4 more
TL;DR: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of tyrosol on the formation of single and mixed biofilms of Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Streptococcus mutans formed on acrylic resin and hydroxyapatite surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antifungal activity of tyrosol and farnesol used in combination against Candida species in the planktonic state or forming biofilms
Douglas Roberto Monteiro,Douglas Roberto Monteiro,Laís Salomão Arias,RA Fernandes,L.F. Deszo da Silva,M.O.V.F. de Castilho,T.O. da Rosa,Adriana Pires Vieira,Fabiana Gouveia Straioto,Debora Barros Barbosa,Alberto Carlos Botazzo Delbem +10 more
TL;DR: This study examined the antifungal activity of the combination of tyrosol and farnesol against Candida albicans and Candida glabrata in the planktonic state or forming biofilms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibiofilm effect of chlorhexidine-carrier nanosystem based on iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles and chitosan.
Ana Paula Miranda Vieira,Laís Salomão Arias,Francisco Nunes de Souza Neto,A.M. Kubo,Bruno Henrique Ramos Lima,Emerson R. Camargo,Juliano Pelim Pessan,Alberto Carlos Botazzo Delbem,Douglas Roberto Monteiro,Douglas Roberto Monteiro +9 more
TL;DR: Biofilm quantification assays revealed that the CHX nanosystem promoted similar or superior antibiofilm effects compared to its counterpart at 39 μg/mL and free CHX at 78 μg/ mL, highlighting the potential of CS-coated IONPs as preventive or therapeutic agents carrying CHX to fight biofilm-associated oral diseases.
