Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated aortic pulse wave velocity, a marker of arterial stiffness, predicts cardiovascular events in well-functioning older adults.
Kim Sutton-Tyrrell,Samer S. Najjar,Robert M. Boudreau,Lakshmi Venkitachalam,Varant Kupelian,Eleanor M. Simonsick,Richard J. Havlik,Edward G. Lakatta,Harold A. Spurgeon,Stephen B. Kritchevsky,Marco Pahor,Douglas C. Bauer,Anne B. Newman +12 more
TL;DR: Among generally healthy, community-dwelling older adults, aPWV, a marker of arterial stiffness, is associated with higher CV mortality, CHD, and stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum potassium levels and mortality in acute myocardial infarction.
Abhinav Goyal,John A. Spertus,Kensey Gosch,Lakshmi Venkitachalam,Philip G. Jones,Greet Van den Berghe,Mikhail Kosiborod +6 more
TL;DR: Among inpatients with AMI, the lowest mortality was observed in those with postadmission serum potassium levels between 3.5 and <4.5 mEq/L compared with those who had higher or lower potassium levels, and the association between potassium levels and outcomes after adjusting for patient- and hospital-level factors was U-shaped.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trends in the Incidence of Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Hospitalized With Acute Myocardial Infarction
Amit P. Amin,Adam C. Salisbury,Peter A. McCullough,Kensey Gosch,John A. Spertus,Lakshmi Venkitachalam,Joshua M. Stolker,Chirag R. Parikh,Frederick A. Masoudi,Frederick A. Masoudi,Phillip G Jones,Mikhail Kosiborod +11 more
TL;DR: In a large national study, AKI incidence in patients hospitalized with AMI declined significantly from 2000 to 2008 despite the aging population and rising prevalence of AKI risk factors.
Book ChapterDOI
Calcifications, Arterial Stiffness and Atherosclerosis
TL;DR: Current evidence supports that medial calcification is associated with increases in arterial stiffness, and the association between intimal (atherosclerotic-associated) calcification and arterials stiffness is less definitive.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship of Ankle Blood Pressures to Cardiovascular Events in Older Adults
Kim Sutton-Tyrrell,Lakshmi Venkitachalam,Alka M. Kanaya,Robert M. Boudreau,Tamara B. Harris,Trina Thompson,Rachel H. Mackey,Marjolein Visser,Georgeta D. Vaidean,Anne B. Newman +9 more
TL;DR: Among older adults, low and high ankle–arm index values carry elevated risk for cardiovascular events, including stroke in older adults.
