Energy saving direction on railway transport is substantiated based on reducing the motion resistance related to directing the undercarriages by a rail track. This motion resistance is defined as the kinematic resistance to motion. We clarified the nature of motion resistance associated with directing the rolling stock by a rail track. This opens up certain prospects in terms of reducing the kinematic motion resistance through design parameters of the trucks and the track. The kinematic resistance to motion could become an additional criterion for the optimal choice of characteristics of mechanical part of the undercarriages. The same applies to the permissible deviations in parameters of the rolling stock and the track. We model steady motion of a semi-wagon’s truck in a circular curve at constant velocity under the action of contact track forces, tractive force from the locomotive, and the unsuppressed centrifugal or centripetal forces of inertia. The kinematic motion resistance is determined as the longitudinal force applied to the truck’s pivot in order to balance all external forces. The dependences were obtained of specific kinematic resistance to motion on the motion velocity, base of the truck, radius of the curve, clearances of the wheelset in a rail track, and elevation of the outer rail. In particular, we derived a value of the motion velocity at which the minimum of resistance is observed. As we established, this speed does not match the equilibrium velocity and is 15−20 % lower. The study showed the possibility to predict resistance related to directing the undercarriages by a rail track. This opens up the prospect for choosing rational parameters of undercarriage gear of the rolling stock from the point of view of motion resistance

The article presents results of computational modelling of containers dynamic load during transportation as a part of trains of intermodal transport on a railway ferry. The computational models were developed which account the movement of the container with regard to the frame of the flat wagon while moving of the railway ferry. It was assumed that there is no movement of the flat wagon with regard to the deck, since these movements were limited by fastening means. Attention was also paid to the movement of liquid bulk cargo in the boiler when studied the dynamic load of the tank container. The obtained acceleration rates, as components of the dynamic loads acting on the container, were accounted while determining the containers stability coefficient with regard to the flat wagons. The railway ferry heeling angles which ensure the stability of the containers were determined. The researches will ensure safety of transportation of containers as a part of trains of intermodal transport on a railway ferry, as well as increase the efficiency of operation of intermodal transport in the international transport.

S u m m a r y . To determine the dynamic properties of the mainline freight locomotives, characterizing the safe movement on straight and curved sections of track in the whole range of operating speeds, you need a set of studies including selection of design scheme, the development of an appropriate mathematical model of spatial fluctuations of the locomotive, making a computer calculation program, conducting the theoretical, and then experimental investigations of new designs. In this case, one should compare the results with existing constructions. One of the necessary conditions for improving the quality of traction rolling stock is to define the parameters of its running gears. Among the questions related to this problem, an important place occupies the problem of determining dynamic qualities of the locomotives at the stages of design, taking into account with the chosen technical solutions in the running gear design. The work focuses on key tendencies of some types of main locomotives embodiment, focusing on improving the running gears design. As a result of investigations one can see that the creation of a modern locomotive requires from designers and scientists realization of scientific and technical solutions providing the design speed increase with simultaneous improvement of the traction, braking and dynamic qualities to provide the simple and reliable construction, especially construction of the running gear, reducing the operating costs, low original cost and operating costs for the total service life, high traction force during take-off, work capability in the multiple traction mode, maximally approximated to the limited clutch and sufficient design speed. Research of mathematical modeling is conducted by the method of numerical integration of the dynamic loading of the main-line locomotive using the software system «Dynamics of Rail Vehicles» («DYNRAIL»). Design features of the running gear elements of some types of the main-line locomotives, which have inclined rods between bogie and the body, transmitting the traction forces between them and providing essential dynamic performance of the carriage motion are studied. Mathematical Simulation of Spatial Oscillations of the "Underframe-Track" System Interaction

Purpose . Publication of the results of international scientific and technical cooperation of the Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan (DNURT, Ukraine) and the Czech Technical University (CTU) in the field of engineering training of students on the basis of modern methods of development of scientific and creative abilities of students. Methodology . The development of scientific thought and the improvement of the professional level of students of engineering specialties of railway technical institutes may be carried out by different methods both during training and during extracurricular time. One of the methods for improving the scientific level of future engineers is the public lectures of renowned scholars and researchers from leading European higher education institutions, enabling students to have access to world-class advanced scientific idea. Findings . The authors have analyzed the activity of DNURT and CTU on scientific and educational preparation of students. It is emphasized that cooperation promotes strengthening of contacts between universities, improves the quality of students' training, is one of the factors of the professional development of future specialists, raising the scientific level of engineering training of railway transport professionals. It is proved that DNURT and CTU duly fulfill the higher education tasks of training of professional personnel who are able to work effectively in the global market, aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of education. Originality . This paper presents the analysis of results concerning the efficiency of application of modern methods for engineering training of students of technical higher educational institutions. It gives extended view of the main directions of international education activities. Practical value . It is confirmed that popularization of modern methods of propagation of engineering thought among student youth has acquired a new meaning and contributes to enhancing the scientific level of engineering training of railway transport professionals.
