Dengue Virus-Specific Antibodies Enhance Brazilian Zika Virus Infection.
Priscila M. S. Castanha,Priscila M. S. Castanha,Eduardo J. M. Nascimento,Cynthia Braga,Marli Tenório Cordeiro,Otávio Valério de Carvalho,Otávio Valério de Carvalho,Leila R de Mendonça,Elisa A N Azevedo,Rafael F. O. França,Rafael Dhalia,Ernesto T. A. Marques,Ernesto T. A. Marques +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that dengue-specific antibodies enhance the infection of a primary Brazilian ZIKV isolate in a FcγRII-expressing K562 cell line and that serum samples from d Dengue-immune pregnant women enhanced ZikV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Transcriptional and Protein Profile From Human Infected Neuroprogenitor Cells Is Strongly Correlated to Zika Virus Microcephaly Cytokines Phenotype Evidencing a Persistent Inflammation in the CNS
Morganna C. Lima,Leila R de Mendonça,Antonio Mauro Rezende,Raquel Medialdea Carrera,Conceição E. Aníbal-Silva,Matthew Demers,Leonardo D'Aiuto,Joel Wood,Kodavali V. Chowdari,Michael J. Griffiths,Antonio R. Lucena-Araujo,Manoel Barral-Netto,Elisa A N Azevedo,Renan W. Alves,Pablo Cantalice Santos Farias,Ernesto T. A. Marques,Ernesto T. A. Marques,Priscila M. S. Castanha,Claire L. Donald,Alain Kohl,Vishwajit L. Nimgaonkar,Rafael F. O. França +21 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that the CNS may be directly affected due to an unbalanced and chronic local inflammatory response, elicited by ZIKV infection, which contributes to damage to the fetal brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
The thiopurine nucleoside analogue 6-methylmercaptopurine riboside (6MMPr) effectively blocks Zika virus replication
Otávio Valério de Carvalho,Daniele Mendes Félix,Leila R de Mendonça,Catarina Maria Cataldi Sabino de Araújo,Rafael F. O. França,Marli Tenório Cordeiro,Abelardo Silva Júnior,Lindomar Pena +7 more
TL;DR: Evaluated for the first time, the thiopurine nucleoside analogue 6MMPr is identified as a promising antiviral candidate against ZIKV that warrants further in vivo evaluation.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-33 signaling is essential to attenuate viral-induced encephalitis development by downregulating iNOS expression in the central nervous system
Rafael F. O. França,Renata Sesti Costa,Jaqueline Raymondi Silva,Raphael S. Peres,Leila R de Mendonça,David F. Colón,José C. Alves-Filho,Fernando Q. Cunha +7 more
TL;DR: iNOS−/− mice were more resistant to Rocio virus encephalitis, presenting a lower clinical score and reduced mortality rate, despite the increased tissue pathology, suggesting that nitric oxide overproduction might have an important role in the progression of experimental viral encephalopathy.
