NSs Protein of Rift Valley Fever Virus Blocks Interferon Production by Inhibiting Host Gene Transcription
Agnès Billecocq,Martin Spiegel,P. Vialat,Alain Kohl,Friedemann Weber,Michèle Bouloy,Otto Haller +6 more
TL;DR: The present results suggest that NSs, unlike other viral IFN antagonists, does not inhibit IFN-specific transcription factors but blocks IFN gene expression at a subsequent step.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chikungunya virus: an update on the biology and pathogenesis of this emerging pathogen
Felicity J. Burt,Weiqiang Chen,Jonathan J. Miner,Deborah J. Lenschow,Andres Merits,Esther Schnettler,Alain Kohl,Penny A. Rudd,Adam Taylor,Lara J. Herrero,Ali Zaid,Lisa F. P. Ng,Lisa F. P. Ng,Suresh Mahalingam +13 more
TL;DR: An update on chikungunya virus with regard to its epidemiology, molecular virology, virus-host interactions, immunological responses, animal models, and potential antiviral therapies and vaccines is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zika virus: a previously slow pandemic spreads rapidly through the Americas.
Derek Gatherer,Alain Kohl +1 more
TL;DR: Its clinical profile is that of a dengue-like febrile illness, but associations with Guillain-Barré syndrome and microcephaly have appeared recently.
Journal ArticleDOI
Knockdown of piRNA pathway proteins results in enhanced Semliki Forest virus production in mosquito cells
Esther Schnettler,Esther Schnettler,Claire L. Donald,Claire L. Donald,Stacey Human,Stacey Human,Mick Watson,Ricky W. C. Siu,Melanie McFarlane,John K. Fazakerley,John K. Fazakerley,Alain Kohl,Alain Kohl,Rennos Fragkoudis,Rennos Fragkoudis +14 more
TL;DR: It is shown that piRNA-like molecules are produced following infection with the naturally mosquito-borne Semliki Forest virus in mosquito cell lines and knockdown of piRNA pathways proteins enhances the replication of this arbovirus, thus characterizing the antiviral properties of the piRNA pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Full Genome Sequence and sfRNA Interferon Antagonist Activity of Zika Virus from Recife, Brazil.
Claire L. Donald,Benjamin Brennan,Stephanie L. Cumberworth,Veronica V. Rezelj,Jordan J. Clark,Marli Tenório Cordeiro,Rafael F. O. França,Lindomar Pena,Gavin S. Wilkie,Ana da Silva Filipe,Chris Davis,Joseph Hughes,Margus Varjak,Martin Selinger,Martin Selinger,Luíza Zuvanov,Ania M. Owsianka,Arvind H. Patel,John McLauchlan,Brett D. Lindenbach,Gamou Fall,Amadou A. Sall,Roman Biek,Jan Rehwinkel,Esther Schnettler,Alain Kohl +25 more
TL;DR: The full-length genome sequence including non-coding regions of a South American ZIKV isolate from a patient with classical symptoms will support efforts to develop genetic tools for this virus.
