Journal ArticleDOI
Prophylaxis against hepatitis B recurrence following liver transplantation using combination lamivudine and hepatitis B immune globulin.
Jay S. Markowitz,Paul Martin,Andrew Conrad,James F. Markmann,Philip Seu,Hasan Yersiz,John A. Goss,Peter Schmidt,Anita Pakrasi,Lucy Artinian,Natalie Murray,David K. Imagawa,Curtis Holt,Leonard I. Goldstein,Rise Stribling,Ronald W. Busuttil,Ronald W. Busuttil +16 more
TL;DR: At a median follow-up of 1.1 years, combination prophylaxis with lamivudine and HBIG prevented hepatitis B recurrence following liver transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of long-term outcomes of 3200 liver transplantations over two decades: a single-center experience.
Ronald W. Busuttil,Douglas G. Farmer,Hasan Yersiz,Jonathan R. Hiatt,Sue V. McDiarmid,Leonard I. Goldstein,Sammy Saab,Steven Han,Francisco Durazo,Michael N. Weaver,Carlos Cao,Tony Chen,Gerald S. Lipshutz,Curtis Holt,Sherilyn A. Gordon,Jeffery Gornbein,Farin Amersi,Rafik M. Ghobrial +17 more
TL;DR: Long-term benefits of OLT are greatest in pediatric and nonurgent patients, and multiple factors involving the recipient, etiology of liver disease, donor characteristics, operative variables, and surgical experience influence long-term survival outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Orthotopic liver transplantation for primary sclerosing cholangitis. A 12-year single center experience.
John A. Goss,Christopher R. Shackleton,Douglas G. Farmer,Walid S. Arnaout,Philip Seu,Jay S. Markowitz,Paul Martin,Rise Stribling,Leonard I. Goldstein,Ronald W. Busuttil +9 more
TL;DR: Liver transplantation provides excellent patient and graft survival rates for patients affected with PSC independent of pretransplant biliary tract surgery, however, known CCA or common duct frozen section biopsy specimen or both showing CCA are associated with poor recipient survival, and OLT should be proscribed in these cases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term patient outcome and quality of life after liver transplantation: analysis of 20-year survivors.
John P. Duffy,Kenneth K. Kao,Clifford Y. Ko,Douglas G. Farmer,Sue V. McDiarmid,Johnny C. Hong,Robert S. Venick,Susan Feist,Leonard I. Goldstein,Sammy Saab,Jonathan R. Hiatt,Ronald W. Busuttil +11 more
TL;DR: Overall HRQOL was significantly better in 20-year survivors than in patients with chronic liver disease, congestive heart failure, or diabetes, and clinical factors associated with improved post-LTHRQOL were younger age at LT, allograft longevity, and strong social support.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 10-Year Experience of Liver Transplantation for Hepatitis C: Analysis of Factors Determining Outcome in Over 500 Patients
Rafik M. Ghobrial,Randy Steadman,Jeffery Gornbein,Charles Lassman,Curtis Holt,Pauline Chen,Douglas G. Farmer,Hasan Yersiz,Natale Danino,Eric A. Collisson,Angeles Baquarizo,Steve Han,Steve Han,Sammy Saab,Sammy Saab,Leonard I. Goldstein,Leonard I. Goldstein,John A. Donovan,Karl T. Esrason,Ronald W. Busuttil,Ronald W. Busuttil +20 more
TL;DR: The earlier the recurrence of HCV, the greater the impact on patient and graft survival, and the use ofHCV-positive donors may accelerate HCV recurrence, and they should be used judiciously.
