Journal ArticleDOI
Outbreak of Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Producing the OXA-23 Enzyme in Curitiba, Brazil
Libera Maria Dalla-Costa,Juliana Coelho,Helena Aguilar Peres Homem de Mello de Souza,Maria Edutania Skroski Castro,Christiane Johnscher Niebel Stier,Karin L. Bragagnolo,Álvaro Réa-Neto,Sergio R. Penteado-Filho,David M. Livermore,Neil Woodford +9 more
TL;DR: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were obtained from eight patients in two hospitals in Curitiba, Brazil and contributed to the deaths of five patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Streptococcus agalactiae in Brazil: serotype distribution, virulence determinants and antimicrobial susceptibility
Vanusa G. Dutra,Valeria M. N. Alves,Andre N. Olendzki,Cícero Armídio Gomes Dias,Alessandra F. A. de Bastos,Gianni O. Santos,Efigênia L. T. Amorin,Meireille A. B. Sousa,Rosemary Santos,Patricia C. S. Ribeiro,Cleuber F. Fontes,Marco Andrey,Kedma Magalhaes,Ana A. Araujo,Lilian F. Paffadore,Camila Marconi,Eddie Fernando Candido Murta,P. C. Fernandes,Maria Stella Gonçalves Raddi,Penélope Saldanha Marinho,Rita Guérios Bornia,Jussara Kasuko Palmeiro,Libera Maria Dalla-Costa,Tatiana C. A. Pinto,Ana Caroline N. Botelho,Lúcia M. Teixeira,Sergio Eduardo Longo Fracalanzza +26 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that GBS isolates circulating in Brazil have a variety of phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, and suggest that macrolide-resistant isolates may arise by both clonal spread and independent acquisition of resistance genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of CTX-M enzymes, quinolone resistance determinants, and antimicrobial residues from hospital sewage, wastewater treatment plant, and river water.
Danieli Conte,Jussara Kasuko Palmeiro,Keite da Silva Nogueira,Thiago Marenda Rosa de Lima,Marco André Cardoso,Roberto Pontarolo,Flávia Lada Degaut Pontes,Libera Maria Dalla-Costa +7 more
TL;DR: The results have shown strains carrying ESBL genes, PMQR determinants, and mutations in the gyrA QRDR genes mainly in hospital effluent, URW, and DRW samples, making this a natural reservoir.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization of Group B Streptococcal Isolates in Southern Brazil
Jussara Kasuko Palmeiro,Jussara Kasuko Palmeiro,Libera Maria Dalla-Costa,Sergio Eduardo Longo Fracalanzza,Ana Caroline N. Botelho,Keite da Silva Nogueira,Mara Cristina Scheffer,Rosângela Stadnick Lauth de Almeida Torres,Newton Sérgio de Carvalho,Laura Lúcia Cogo,Humberto Maciel França Madeira +10 more
TL;DR: Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis results revealed a variety of types, reflecting the substantial genetic diversity among GBS strains, although a great number of isolates could be clustered into two major groups with a high degree of genetic relatedness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Echinocandin Resistance in Two Candida haemulonii Isolates from Pediatric Patients
Marisol Dominguez Muro,Fabio de Araujo Motta,Marion Burger,Analy Salles de Azevedo Melo,Libera Maria Dalla-Costa +4 more
TL;DR: In 2 of the 3 cases of patients with Candida haemulonii isolates that were obtained from hemocultures, isolates exhibited resistance to echinocandins and fluconazole, the first report of an echinOCandin-resistant species of this fungus in pediatric patients.
