How fast do gully headcuts retreat
Matthias Vanmaercke,Matthias Vanmaercke,Jean Poesen,Bert Van Mele,Matthias Demuzere,Matthias Demuzere,Amber Bruynseels,Valentin Golosov,José Fernando Rodrigues Bezerra,Sergey Bolysov,Aleksandr Dvinskih,Amaury Frankl,Yulia Fuseina,Antonio José Teixeira Guerra,Nigussie Haregeweyn,Ion Ionita,Fils Makanzu Imwangana,Jan Moeyersons,Itshack Moshe,Aliakbar Nazari Samani,Lilian Niacsu,Jan Nyssen,Yoshinori Otsuki,Maria Rădoane,Ivan Rysin,Yuri V. Ryzhov,Oleg Yermolaev +26 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a meta-analysis of measured gully headcut retreat (GHR) rates worldwide and found that GHR rates are subject to very large year-to-year variations.

The Potential of Permanent Gullies in Europe as Geomorphosites
Wojciech Zgłobicki,Jean Poesen,Marianne Cohen,Maurizio Del Monte,José María García-Ruiz,Ion Ionita,Lilian Niacsu,Zora Machová,J.F. Martín-Duque,Estela Nadal-Romero,Alessia Pica,Freddy Rey,Albert Solé-Benet,Miloš Stankoviansky,Christian Stolz,Dino Torri,Juris Soms,Francesca Vergari +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe 12 representative gully regions within nine European countries and present the characteristics of 42 permanent gullies, gully systems, and badland landscapes based on scientific values of the sites, educational lessons to be learned were identified that are mainly related to (i) gullies as a geological window, present-day geomorphological processes and stages of historical gully erosion reflecting past human-environment interactions.

Gully development in eastern Romania: a case study from Falciu Hills
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the role of gully erosion in triggering landslides in the Chioara catchment of the Falciu Hills in East Romania, and showed that the average gully head retreat rate over the last two centuries from four trunk continuous gullies is 14 −m−year−1, and the sediment yield from gullying only accounted for 54 −69% of the sediment mass produced by water erosion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wind erosion on arable lands, associated with extreme blizzard conditions within the hilly area of Eastern Romania.
Lilian Niacsu,Lucian Sfîcă,Adrian Ursu,Pavel Ichim,Diana Elena Bobric,Iuliana Gabriela Breaban +5 more
TL;DR: An extreme blizzard event has been investigated as case study within the Moldavian Plateau of eastern Romania, showing that the deposited sediment widely varied depending on land‐use and wind speed.
