Journal ArticleDOI
Light-modulation of cellular cAMP by a small bacterial photoactivated adenylyl cyclase, bPAC, of the soil bacterium beggiatoa
Manuela Stierl,Patrick S. Stumpf,Daniel Udwari,Ronnie Gueta,Rolf Hagedorn,Aba Losi,Wolfgang Gärtner,Linda Petereit,Marina Efetova,Martin Schwärzel,Thomas G. Oertner,Georg Nagel,Peter Hegemann +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, a photoactivated adenylyl cyclase (bPAC) was identified in the genome of the bacterium Beggiatoa and showed cyclase activity that was low in darkness but increased 300-fold in the light.
Journal ArticleDOI
Separate roles of PKA and EPAC in renal function unraveled by the optogenetic control of cAMP levels in vivo.
Marina Efetova,Linda Petereit,Kamil Rosiewicz,Gayle Overend,Florian Haußig,Bernhard T. Hovemann,Pablo Cabrero,Julian A. T. Dow,Martin Schwärzel +8 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that such optogenetic control of cellular cAMP levels can be applied to other systems, for example the heart or the central nervous system, to investigate the physiological impact of cAMP-dependent signaling pathways with unprecedented precision.
