Journal ArticleDOI
Risk assessment for side-effects of neonicotinoids against bumblebees with and without impairing foraging behavior.
Veerle Mommaerts,Sofie Reynders,Jana Boulet,Linde Besard,Guido Sterk,Guy Smagghe,Guy Smagghe +6 more
TL;DR: It is recommended that behavior tests should be included in risk assessment tests for highly toxic pesticides because impairment of the foraging behavior can result in a decreased pollination, lower reproduction and finally in colony mortality due to a lack of food.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compatibility of traditional and novel acaricides with bumblebees (Bombus terrestris): a first laboratory assessment of toxicity and sublethal effects
Linde Besard,Veerle Mommaerts,Jessica Vandeven,Xavier Cuvelier,Guido Sterk,Guy Smagghe,Guy Smagghe +6 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that most of the acaricides tested are compatible with bumblebees, with the exceptions of abamectin, bifenazate, b ifenthrin and etoxazole, however, the risks also depended on the type of treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diet or medication in primary care patients with IBS: the DOMINO study - a randomised trial supported by the Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE Trials Programme) and the Rome Foundation Research Institute
Florencia Carbone,Karen Van den Houte,Linde Besard,Celine C. Tack,Joris Arts,Philip Caenepeel,Hubert Piessevaux,A. Vandenberghe,Christophe Matthys,Jessica R Biesiekierski,Luc Capiau,Steven Ceulemans,Olivier Gernay,Lydia Jones,Sophie Maes,C. Peetermans,Willem Raat,Jeroen Stubbe,Rudy Van Boxstael,O. Vandeput,Sophie Van Steenbergen,Lukas Van Oudenhove,Tim Vanuytsel,Mike Jones,Jan Tack +24 more
TL;DR: In primary care IBS patients, a FODMAP-lowering diet application was superior to a spasmolytic agent in improving IBS symptoms and should be considered the first-line treatment for IBS in primary care.

Use of beneficial insects in plant protection with pesticides
Veerle Mommaerts,Linde Besard,Guy Smagghe,Guido Sterk,Christian Ernest Serge Gunther Van Osselaer,Herman Felicien Marie Van Mellaert,Kurt Put +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for the distribution of pesticides and beneficial organisms in agriculture and horticulture, based on the risk assessment of side effects of chemical plant protection agents, like pesticides herbicides, insecticides and fungicides, on the pollinator Bombus terrestris.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of lethal and sublethal effects by spinetoram on Bombus terrestris
TL;DR: The highest concentrations of spinetoram (MFRC and 1/10 of the MFRC) caused lethal mortality of exposed workers and this resulted in a loss of progeny, but when compared with spinosad, spinotoram is safer.
