Journal ArticleDOI

Pre-replicative development of the bacteriophage T4: RNA and protein synthesis in vivo and in vitro.

TL;DR: An analysis of the size distributions of the specific mRNA's isolated from T4-infected cells suggested that the generation of delayed-early species resulted from the elongation of immediate-early transcripts, and data support the placement of immediately-early and delayed- early genes on identical transcription units which are under the control ofmediate-early promoters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Internal proteins of bacteriophage T4D: Their characterization and relation to head structure and assembly☆

TL;DR: No evidence was found to suggest that the internal proteins are formed from a common precursor molecule, nor are their origins related to those of the internal peptides; however, one of theInternal proteins may be altered before its incorporation into the phage, and Pulse-chase experiments show that they are incorporated into certain defective T4D heads.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcription and translation of sheared bacteriophage T4 DNA in vitro.

TL;DR: The results support a model for T4 DNA transcription in which the time interval between initiation of RNA synthesis and elongation of a specific gene product reflects the physical distance between a promoter and that gene.
