TLDR
An analysis of the size distributions of the specific mRNA's isolated from T4-infected cells suggested that the generation of delayed-early species resulted from the elongation of immediate-early transcripts, and data support the placement of immediately-early and delayed- early genes on identical transcription units which are under the control ofmediate-early promoters.

Journal ArticleDOI

Assembly core of bacteriophage T4: an intermediate in head formation.

TL;DR: An unstable assembly core initiates phage T4 head formation and T4 core proteins—P22 and internal proteins—nucleate capsid assembly but have no structural role in the completed capsid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Translational, autogenous regulation of gene 32 expression during bacteriophage T4 infection.

TL;DR: Functional half-life measurements of the bacteriophage T4 gene 32 messenger RNA indicate that this mRNA is extremely stable, and it is concluded that expression of the T 4 gene 32 protein is regulated at the level of translation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacteriophage T4 gene expression. Evidence for two classes of prereplicative cistrons.

TL;DR: The antibiotic rifampicin has been used in an investigation of the temporal regulation of gene expression during bacteriophage T4 infection of Escherichia coli, and the quasi-late promoters may provide a second mode of regulation for several of those transcripts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacteriophage T4 Transfer RNA

TL;DR: There are only two phage genes which are essential for the production of functional ser-tRNA, one is the structural gene for the ser-TRNA and the second plays an undefined role which affects several tRNAs.

TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factor stimulating transcription by RNA polymerase.

TL;DR: A protein component usually associated with RNA polymerase can be separated from the enzyme by chromatography on phosphocellulose, and the polymerase is unable to transcribe T4 DNA unless this factor is added back.

Termination Factor for RNA Synthesis

TL;DR: A new protein has been isolated from E. coli which causes specific termination and release of RNA during synthesis in vitro and has been given the name ρ-factor.
