Journal ArticleDOI

The Fontan operation. Ventricular hypertrophy, age, and date of operation as risk factors.

TL;DR: hypertrophy of the ventricular main chamber was a risk factor for death in both the early and late phases of hazard, which explained in part the lesser risk of the Fontan operation in patients with tricuspid atresia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determinants of early and late results of repair of atrioventricular septal (canal) defects

TL;DR: The anatomic and functional characteristics of 310 consecutive patients undergoing repair of atrioventricular (AV) septal defects were studied and it is found that actuarial survival at 12 1/2 years postoperatively is 95% when preoperative AV valve incompetence is absent or mild and 88% when it is more severe (Grade 3, 4, or 5).
Journal ArticleDOI

Intracardiac Surgery in Infants Under Age 3 Months: Incremental Risk Factors for Hospital Mortality

TL;DR: During the 13 year period from January 1967 to July 1980, the hospital mortality rate for open intracardiac operations in infants in the first 3 months of life was 43 percent, higher than the 22 percent mortality rates for closed operations in the same age group.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cardiac Repair in Anatomically Corrected Malposition of the Great Arteries

TL;DR: This work reports successful surgical repair in 2 patients with associated large ventricular septal defects and pulmonary stenosis, in which the defect was posterior and in relation to the pulmonary artery which slightly overrode it.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surgical results and protocols in the spectrum of tetralogy of Fallot.

TL;DR: Between 1967 and July 1982, 1103 operations were performed for the tetralogy of Fallot of all types with 116 hospital deaths with 116 (10.5%) hospital deaths occurred in the 836 patients undergoing repair.
