Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced materials from nature: nanocellulose from citrus waste
TL;DR: Different techniques for the isolation and purification of nanocellulose have been reported, and combining these techniques influences the morphology of the resultant fibers, and some of the extraction routes for obtaining nano cellulose from citrus waste are addressed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Advances in Chromobacterium violaceum and properties of violacein-Its main secondary metabolite: A review
Nelson Durán,Giselle Z. Justo,Marcela Durán,Marcelo Brocchi,Lívia Cordi,Ljubica Tasic,Guillermo R. Castro,Gerson Nakazato +7 more
TL;DR: This review on violacein focuses mainly on the last five years of research regarding this target compound and describes production and importance of quorum sensing in C. violaceum, mechanistic aspects of its biosynthesis, monitoring processes, genetic perspectives, pathogenic effects, antiparasitic and antimicrobial activities, immunomodulatory potential and uses, antitumor potential and industrial applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antimicrobial textiles: Biogenic silver nanoparticles against Candida and Xanthomonas.
Daniela Ballottin,Stephanie Fulaz,Flávia Mesquita Cabrini,Junko Tsukamoto,Nelson Durán,Oswaldo Luiz Alves,Ljubica Tasic +6 more
TL;DR: Cotton fibers impregnated with biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), synthesized from a Fusarium oxysporum fungal filtrate (FF) solution, are introduced to open up the possibility for their use in medical environment and agriculture clothing as means to avoid microbial spreading.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biogenic antimicrobial silver nanoparticles produced by fungi
Alexandre Gomes Rodrigues,Liu Yu Ping,Priscyla D. Marcato,Oswaldo Luiz Alves,Maria C. P. Silva,Rita Ruiz,Itamar Soares de Melo,Ljubica Tasic,Ana O. de Souza +8 more
TL;DR: Aspergillus tubingensis and Bionectria ochroleuca showed excellent extracellular ability to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Ag NP), spherical in shape and 35 ± 10 nm in size, which open the possibility of obtaining biogenic Ag NP with positive surface potential and new applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bio-based synthesis of silver nanoparticles from orange waste: effects of distinct biomolecule coatings on size, morphology, and antimicrobial activity.
TL;DR: Despite the fact that different capping biomolecules on AgNPs had an influence on morphology, size, and stability of AgNPS, the antibacterial activity against Xac was not sensitive to this parameter.
