Ions in the Thermosphere of Exoplanets: Observable Constraints Revealed by Innovative Laboratory Experiments

TL;DR: In this article, the signatures of molecular ions that can be found in upper atmospheres above cloud decks were used to distinguish super-Earths with a thin atmosphere from H2-dominated sub-Neptunes to address the critical question of whether a low gravity planet around a low mass active star is able to retain its volatile components.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical composition of Pluto aerosol analogues

TL;DR: In this paper, a room-temperature dusty plasma experiment was used to detect nitrogen and oxygen atoms in Pluto aerosol analogues, and the results showed that the molecules constituting samples P400 and P600 are very rich in nitrogen atoms (up to 45% in mass of N elements).

Positive ion chemistry in an N 2 -CH 4 plasma discharge: Key precursors to the growth of Titan tholins

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of positive ion measurements were performed in three CH4 mixing ratios (1, 5% and 10%) showing a variability in ion population, which is consistent with modeling work simulating aerosol growth in Titan's ionosphere, which includes mass exchange primarily between HCNH+ and C2H5+ and negatively charged particles.
