Journal ArticleDOI

γ Interferon, CD8 + T cells and antibodies required for immunity to malaria sporozoites

TL;DR: Surgical immunity to sporozoite challenge requires the neutralization of sporozoites by antibodies and the inhibition of EEF development by γIFN with the participation of CD8+ cells, and transfer of both immune components resulted in significantly greater protection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibition of development of exoerythrocytic forms of malaria parasites by gamma-interferon

TL;DR: Results suggest that immunologically induced interferon may be involved in controlling malaria infection under natural conditions.
Journal Article

Interferon-gamma inhibits the intrahepatocytic development of malaria parasites in vitro.

TL;DR: The activity of recombinant interferon (IFN)-gamma against Plasmodium berghei exoerythrocytic forms (EEF) grown in vitro within the highly differentiated human hepatoma cell line HEPG2 supports the view that IFN-gamma exerts its antimalarial activity by binding to surface receptors on hepatocytes and inducing intracellular changes unfavorable for parasite development.
Journal ArticleDOI

The 140/130/105 kilodalton protein complex in the rhoptries of Plasmodium falciparum consists of discrete polypeptides.

TL;DR: Four monoclonal antibodies recognise an antigen localised in the rhoptries of Plasmodium falciparum merozoites using both indirect immunofluorescence assay and immunoelectron microscopy with immunogold labeling.
