Arabinose substitution effect on xylan rigidity and self-aggregation
Utsab R. Shrestha,Sydney Smith,Sai Venkatesh Pingali,Hui Yang,Mai Zahran,Lloyd Breunig,Liza Wilson,Margaret Kowali,James D. Kubicki,Daniel J. Cosgrove,Hugh O'Neill,Loukas Petridis +11 more
TL;DR: Molecular dynamics simulations reveal fully solubilized xylans with a low degree of arabinose substitution (lsAX) to be stiffer than their highly substituted (hsAX) counterparts, and highly substituted GAX is more localized in plant cell walls and promotes cellulose bundling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ammonia-salt solvent promotes cellulosic biomass deconstruction under ambient pretreatment conditions to enable rapid soluble sugar production at ultra-low enzyme loadings
Shishir P. S. Chundawat,Leonardo da Costa Sousa,Shyamal Roy,Zhi Yang,Shashwat Gupta,Ramendra K. Pal,Chao Zhao,Shih-Hsien Liu,Loukas Petridis,Hugh O'Neill,Sai Venkatesh Pingali +10 more
TL;DR: The proposed ammonia-salt process can operate at near-ambient conditions to greatly reduce the pressure/temperature severity necessary for conducting effective ammonia-based pretreatments on lignocellulose.

Supercomputer-Based Ensemble Docking Drug Discovery Pipeline with Application to Covid-19
Atanu Acharya,Rupesh Agarwal,Matthew B. Baker,Jerome Baudry,Debsindhu Bhowmik,Swen Boehm,Kendall G. Byler,Leighton Coates,Samuel Yen-Chi Chen,Connor J. Cooper,Omar Demerdash,Isabella Daidone,John D. TL;DR: A supercomputer-driven pipeline for in-silico drug discovery using enhanced sampling molecular dynamics (MD) and ensemble docking and the use of quantum mechanical, machine learning, and AI methods to cluster MD trajectories and rescore docking poses is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic Neutron Scattering by Biological Systems
TL;DR: Vibration in proteins, the temperature dependence of protein motions, and concepts describing the rich variety of motions detectable using neutrons in biological systems at physiological temperatures are examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deconstruction of biomass enabled by local demixing of cosolvents at cellulose and lignin surfaces.
Sai Venkatesh Pingali,Micholas Dean Smith,Micholas Dean Smith,Shih-Hsien Liu,Takat B. Rawal,Takat B. Rawal,Yunqiao Pu,Riddhi S. Shah,Barbara R. Evans,Volker S. Urban,Brian H. Davison,Charles M. Cai,Charles M. Cai,Arthur J. Ragauskas,Hugh O'Neill,Hugh O'Neill,Jeremy C. Smith,Jeremy C. Smith,Loukas Petridis,Loukas Petridis +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the temperature-dependent morphological changes in poplar wood biomass during tetrahydrofuran (THF):water pretreatment were investigated and a mechanism by which the solvent components drive efficient biomass breakdown was provided.
