Investigating the effect of spew and chamfer size on the stresses in metal/plastics adhesive joints

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid joint between steel and FRP was analyzed in detail, in order to identify the optimal condition and to assess design rules, and it was found that spew and chamfer angles of about 45° are sufficient to obtain a considerable reduction of the stress peaks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Damage analysis of composite–aluminium adhesively-bonded single-lap joints

TL;DR: In this article, the Finite Element Method (FEM) coupled with cohesive zone models (CZM) is used to perform a detailed stress analysis that enables the comparison between different planes in the joint and LO values.
Journal ArticleDOI

High strain-rate compression and tension behaviour of an epoxy bi-component adhesive

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the dynamic mechanical properties of an epoxy bi-component adhesive for structural bonding and show that the adhesive strength increases substantially by increasing the strain-rate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact rupture of structural adhesive joints under different stress combinations

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of an experimental study on bonded joints, carried out by means of an instrumented impact pendulum, equipped to load overlap specimens in shear, are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design of adhesive joints based on peak elastic stresses

TL;DR: In this paper, the static strength of adhesively bonded structural joints is investigated and a design rule is inferred by noting that, in a chart having as axes the peak values of the peel and shear components in the adhesive at failure, the points defined for each joint at the 2% (deviation from linearity) proof load define a limit zone.
