Journal ArticleDOI

Consensus multi-locus sequence typing scheme for Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii.

TL;DR: This communication describes the consensus multi-locus typing scheme established by the Cryptococcal Working Group I (Genotyping of Cryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii) of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM) using seven unlinked genetic loci for global strain genotyping.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular phylogeny of Sporothrix schenckii

TL;DR: Whether this variability is due to species divergence or intraspecific diversity in S. schenckii is determined by sequence analysis of three protein coding loci (chitin synthase, β-tubulin, and calmodulin).
Journal ArticleDOI

Possible primary ecological niche of Cryptococcus neoformans.

TL;DR: C. neoformans and C. gattii were found sharing the same natural biotope, thus establishing a possible link between them in their life cycle in nature and suggesting the primary natural niche for the species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii--evidence for a natural habitat related to decaying wood in a pottery tree hollow.

TL;DR: To study hollows of living trees as the natural habitat of Cryptococcus neoformans in an endemic area of cryptococcosis in the northeastern Brazilian region, samples of decaying wood were collected inside the hollows, plated on niger seed agar and inoculated into mice and hamsters.
