Journal ArticleDOI
Removal of cadmium, zinc, manganese and chromium cations from aqueous solution by a clay mineral
TL;DR: Vermiculite, a 2:1 clay mineral, was applied as adsorbent for removal of cadmium, zinc, manganese, and chromium from aqueous solutions and showed good sorption potential for these cations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Natural vermiculite as an exchanger support for heavy cations in aqueous solution.
Maria G. Fonseca,Michelle M. de Oliveira,Luiza N.H. Arakaki,José G.P. Espínola,Claudio Airoldi +4 more
TL;DR: The natural highly charged lamellar silicate vermiculite was investigated as an exchanger matrix in doubly distilled water solution to exchange magnesium inside the lamella with the heavy cations copper, nickel, cobalt, and lead at the solid/liquid interface, indicating a difficulty of the less hydrated cation, lead, in exchanging with magnesiuminside the lameLLar space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hydroxyapatite organofunctionalized with silylating agents to heavy cation removal.
Oberto G. da Silva,Edson Cavalcanti da Silva Filho,Maria G. Fonseca,Luiza N.H. Arakaki,Claudio Airoldi +4 more
TL;DR: The degree of adsorption obtained from batchwise processes showed the best performance of these synthesized nanomaterials when compared with the pristine hydroxyapatite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Silica gel containing sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen as adsorbent centers on surface for removing copper from aqueous/ethanolic solutions.
Ricardo S A Machado,Maria G. Fonseca,Luiza N.H. Arakaki,José G.P. Espínola,Severino F. de Oliveira +4 more
TL;DR: The new modified silica showed a good sorption ability for copper at lower temperatures and its reuse capacity was demonstrated and infrared and (13)C NMR spectroscopic data in conjunction with thermogravimetric measurements are in agreement with the suggested functionalization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ethylenimine in the synthetic routes of a new silylating agent: chelating ability of nitrogen and sulfur donor atoms after anchoring onto the surface of silica gel
TL;DR: In this article, the precursor silylating agent 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (mts) was first grafted onto silica gel and then condensed to one molecule of ethylenimine (etn).
