Journal ArticleDOI

Plasma elastase levels in the adult respiratory distress syndrome

TL;DR: P 1 -protease inhibitor in patients with ARDS suggest that neutrophil release of this degradative enzyme may be pathophysiologically related to the pulmonary and multiorgan injury that characterizes this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI

C3A DES ARG and elastase-alpha 1-protease inhibitor levels in lavage fluid from patients with adult respiratory distress syndrome

TL;DR: The relative specificity of elevated BAL levels of complement fragments and elastase to adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is unknown as discussed by the authors, however, it is known that complement activation and neutrophil release of proteolytic enzymes are important in the pathogenesis of the ARDS.
