Regulation of breathing in hyperthyroidism: relationship to hormonal and metabolic changes
José M. Pino-García,Francisco García-Río,J J Díez,M.A. Gómez-Mendieta,Miguel A. Racionero,Salvador Díaz-Lobato,Villamor J +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that hyperthyroid patients exhibit a significant relationship between their thyroid hormone levels and their increased inspiratory drive and chemosensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Juan F. Masa,Isabel Utrabo,Javier Gómez de Terreros,Myriam Aburto,Cristóbal Esteban,Enric Prats,Belén Núñez,Ángel Ortega-González,Luis Jara-Palomares,M. Cebrian,Juan A. Piña,Enrique Zamora,Gonzalo Segrelles +31 more
TL;DR: The objective of the present study was to compare NIV failure rates between patients with severe and non-severe acidosis admitted to a respiratory intermediate care unit (RICU) with AHRF resulting from ACPE, COPD or OHS.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, NIV was used in patients with OHS without severe OSA phenotype and the mean hospitalization days per year ± SD was 2.60 ± 5.31 in the control group and 2.71 ± 4.52 in the NIV group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term Within-Subject Variability of Inspiratory Neural Drive Response to Hypoxia
Francisco García-Río,José M. Pino-García,Miguel A. Racionero,Javier G. Terreros-Caro,M.A. Gómez-Mendieta,Concepción Prados,Carlos Villasante +6 more
TL;DR: Long term within-subject variability of P0.1 response to hypoxia is moderate, and intrinsic variability needs to be emphasized when interpreting the effects of experimental interventions on hypoxic sensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In ambulatory patients with OHS and concomitant severe OSA who were treated with NIV or CPAP, long-term NIV therapy was similar to CPAP in improving awakehypercapnia, regardless of the severity of baseline hypercapnia.
