Journal ArticleDOI

Acetylated histone H4 on the male X chromosome is associated with dosage compensation in Drosophila.

TL;DR: It is found that MLE and MSL-1 bind to the X chromosome in an identical pattern and that the pattern of H4Ac16 on the X is largely coincident with that of MLE/MSl-1, suggesting that synthesis or localization of H 4Ac16 is controlled by the dosage compensation regulatory hierarchy.
Journal ArticleDOI

The male-specific lethal-one (msl-1) gene of Drosophila melanogaster encodes a novel protein that associates with the X chromosome in males.

TL;DR: Evidence is presented that the msl-1 protein is associated with hundreds of sites along the length of the X chromosome in male, but not in female, nuclei, which supports the hypothesis that mSl-1 plays a direct role in increasing the level of X-linked gene transcription in male nuclei.
