Simulation of nanofluid heat transfer in presence of magnetic field: A review

Stagnation point flow with Cattaneo-Christov heat flux and homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions

Ferrofluid flow and heat transfer in the presence of an external variable magnetic field is studied. The inner cylinder is maintained at uniform heat flux and the outer cylinder has constant temperature. The Control Volume based Finite Element Method (CVFEM) is applied to solve the governing equations. Combined magnetohydrodynamic and ferrohydrodynamic effects have been taken into account. The effects of magnetic number, Hartmann number, Rayleigh number and nanoparticle volume fraction on hydrothermal behavior have been examined. Results show that the Nusselt number is an increasing function of Magnetic number, Rayleigh number and nanoparticle volume fraction while it is a decreasing function of the Hartmann number. Also, it can be concluded that the enhancement in heat transfer decreases with an increase in the Rayleigh number and magnetic number but it increases with an increase in the Hartmann number.

Effect of spatially variable magnetic field on ferrofluid flow and heat transfer considering constant heat flux boundary condition

Effect of spatially variable magnetic field on ferrofluid flow and heat transfer is investigated. The enclosure is filled with Fe3O4–water nanofluid. Control volume based finite element method (CVFEM) is applied to solve the governing equations. The combined effects of ferrohydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic have been taken into account. The influences of Magnetic number, Hartmann number, Rayleigh number and nanoparticle volume fraction on the flow and heat transfer characteristics have been examined. Results show that enhancement in heat transfer decrease with increase of Rayleigh number while for two other active parameters different behavior is observed. Also it can be concluded that Nusselt number is an increasing function of Magnetic number, Rayleigh number and nanoparticle volume fraction while it is a decreasing function of Hartmann number.

Effect of space dependent magnetic field on free convection of Fe3O4–water nanofluid

Magnetohydrodynamic three-dimensional flow of viscoelastic nanofluid in the presence of nonlinear thermal radiation

This article describes heat and mass transfer characteristics in three-dimensional flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid. The flow caused is due to bidirectional stretching surface. Radiation effects are taken into account via Rosseland approximation. In addition the thermophoresis effects are considered. Results of velocities, temperature and concentration are constructed. The obtained results are plotted and discussed for interesting physical parameters. We have seen that the increasing values of thermophoretic parameter leads to a decrease in the concentration field and concentration boundary layer thickness. Also it is noticed that the concentration field corresponding to thermophoretic parameter decays quickly in comparison to concentration field for Schmidt number.

Impact of magnetic field in three-dimensional flow of an Oldroyd-B nanofluid

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) three-dimensional flow of Jeffrey fluid in the presence of Newtonian heating is investigated. Flow is caused by a bidirectional stretching surface. Series solutions are constructed for the velocity and temperature fields. Convergence of series solutions is ensured graphically and numerically. The variations of key parameters on the physical quantities are shown and discussed in detail. Constructed series solutions are compared with the existing solutions in the limiting case and an excellent agreement is noticed. Nusselt numbers are computed with and without magnetic fields. It is observed that the Nusselt number decreases in the presence of magnetic field.
