Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is an optimization algorithm developed by Mirjalili and Lewis in 2016. An overview of WOA is described in this paper, rooted from the bubble-net hunting strategy, besides an overview of WOA applications that are used to solve optimization problems in various categories. The best solution has been determined to make something as functional and effective as possible through the optimization process by minimizing or maximizing the parameters involved in the problems. Research and engineering attention have been paid to Meta-heuristics for purposes of decision-making given the growing complexity of models and the needs for quick decision making in the engineering. An updated review of research of WOA is provided in this paper for hybridization, improved, and variants. The categories included in the reviews are Engineering, Clustering, Classification, Robot Path, Image Processing, Networks, Task Scheduling, and other engineering applications. According to the reviewed literature, WOA is mostly used in the engineering area to solve optimization problems. Providing an overview and summarizing the review of WOA applications are the aims of this paper.

Automated power management strategy for wind power generation system using pitch angle controller

This paper presents a comprehensive survey on application of various conventional, optimization and artificial intelligence (AI) based computational techniques for impact assessment of optimally placed and coordinated control of distributed generations (DGs) and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controllers in power systems (PSs). This review work is presented from the viewpoint of different performance criterion enhancement of PSs such as minimization of active and reactive power losses and reduction of cost of system, more flexible operation and control, increase overall system energy efficiency, increase reliability of system, relieved transmission and distribution congestion, enhance power quality (PQ) of system, improve the voltage profile (VP), increase the loadability of systems, increase available power transfer capacity (APTC) of system, enhance PS stability, reduce PS oscillations, improve environmental GHG conditions and provide the reactive power support in emergency case such as under fault, sudden change in field excitation of alternators or load increase in PSs. This paper also presents the current status of the various conventional, optimization, and AI computational techniques for optimally placed and coordinated control of DG and FACTS controllers in PSs for enhancement of PSs performance parameters. Authors strongly believe that this survey will be very much useful to the researchers, scientific engineers, industrial persons working in this area to find out the relevant references and current state of the art.

Comparative Performance Analysis of AVR Controllers Using Modern Optimization Techniques

Most of the critical real-world networks are con-tinuously changing and evolving with time. Motivated by the growing importance and widespread impact of this type of networks, the dynamic nature of these networks have gained a lot of attention. Because of their intrinsic and special characteristics, these networks are best represented by dynamic graph models. To cope with their evolving nature, the representation model must keep the historical information of the network along with its temporal time. Storing such amount of data, poses many problems from the perspective of dynamic graph data management. This survey provides an in-depth overview on dynamic graph related problems. Novel categorization and classification of the state of the art dynamic graph models are also presented in a systematic and comprehensive way. Finally, we discuss dynamic graph processing including the output representation of its algorithms.

Comprehensive Survey on Dynamic Graph Models

This paper proposes a Cascaded PIDA (Proportional-Integral-Derivative-Acceleration) load frequency controller (LFC) for interconnected power systems with Wave Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). The proposed controller parameters are optimized using the Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA), which is a recent optimization technique known to be robust. The Cascaded PIDA controller results are compared to the results of a single structure MPA based PIDA controller and other PIDA controllers whose parameters are optimized using various optimization techniques presented in previous literature. Results show that the MPA-based PIDA-LFC has better results than other PIDA controllers optimized by other techniques, while the MPA-Cascaded PIDA-LFC has proven to have the best performance where the frequency and the tie-line power fluctuations, due to the connected Wave Energy Conversion System, are efficiently damped. Moreover, the results are presented in the form of time-domain simulation conducted via MATLAB /SIMULINK.
