Journal ArticleDOI
Transfusion strategies for acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Càndid Villanueva,Alan Colomo,Alba Bosch,Mar Concepción,Virginia Hernández-Gea,Carles Aracil,Isabel Graupera,Maria A. Poca,Cristina Alvarez-Urturi,Jordi Gordillo,Carlos Guarner-Argente,Miquel Santaló,Eduardo Muñiz,Carlos Guarner +13 more
TL;DR: As compared with a liberal transfusion strategy, a restrictive strategy significantly improved outcomes in patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Course of acute-on-chronic liver failure syndrome and effects on prognosis
Thierry Gustot,Javier Fernández,Elisabet Garcia,Filippo Morando,Paolo Caraceni,Carlo Alessandria,Wim Laleman,Jonel Trebicka,Laure Elkrief,Corinna Hopf,Pablo Solís-Muñoz,Faouzi Saliba,Stefan Zeuzem,A. Albillos,Daniel Benten,José Luis Montero-Álvarez,Maria Teresa Chivas,Mar Concepción,Juan Córdoba,A. McCormick,Rudolf E. Stauber,Wolfgang Vogel,Andrea De Gottardi,Tania M. Welzel,Marco Domenicali,A. Risso,Julia Wendon,Carme Deulofeu,Paolo Angeli,François Durand,Marco Pavesi,Alexander L. Gerbes,Rajiv Jalan,Richard Moreau,Pere Ginès,Mauro Bernardi,Vicente Arroyo +36 more
TL;DR: Assessment of ACLF patients at 3‐7 days of the syndrome provides a tool to define the emergency of LT and a rational basis for intensive care discontinuation owing to futility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Albumin Treatment in Patients With Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis
Maria A. Poca,Mar Concepción,Meritxell Casas,Cristina Álvarez–Urturi,Jordi Gordillo,Virginia Hernández–Gea,Eva Román,Eva Román,Carlos Guarner Argente,Ignasi Gich,Germán Soriano,Germán Soriano,Carlos Guarner,Carlos Guarner +13 more
TL;DR: Albumin therapy increases survival of patients who have high-risk episodes of SBP, although it does not seem to be necessary for patients with low risk of death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toll-like receptor 4 D299G polymorphism and the incidence of infections in cirrhotic patients.
Carlos Guarner-Argente,Elisabet Sánchez,Silvia Vidal,Eva Román,Mar Concepción,Maria A. Poca,D. Sánchez,Cándido Juárez,Germán Soriano,Carlos Guarner +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the relationship between the presence of the TLR4 D299G polymorphism and the incidence of bacterial infections in cirrhotic patients and concluded that the TLRs could influence not only the predisposition to bacterial infections but also the evolution of the disease in patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-term hemodynamic effects of β-blockers influence survival of patients with decompensated cirrhosis
Edilmar Alvarado-Tapias,Alba Ardevol,Alba Ardevol,Marta Garcia-Guix,rosa montañés,Oana Pavel,Berta Cuyas,Isabel Graupera,Anna Brujats,David Vilades,Alan Colomo,Maria A. Poca,Xavier Torras,Carlos Guarner,Mar Concepción,Carles Aracil,Ferran Torres,Càndid Villanueva +17 more
TL;DR: In patients with high-risk varices treated to prevent first bleeding, the systemic hemodynamic response to β-blockers is greater in those with decompensated cirrhosis than in compensated with higher reduction of hearth-rate and CO, while portal pressure decrease is smaller.
