TL;DR: The global estimate of viraemic HCV infections is lower than previous estimates, largely due to more recent prevalence estimates in Africa, and increased mortality due to liver-related causes and an ageing population may have contributed to a reduction in infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Course of acute-on-chronic liver failure syndrome and effects on prognosis
Thierry Gustot,Javier Fernández,Elisabet Garcia,Filippo Morando,Paolo Caraceni,Carlo Alessandria,Wim Laleman,Jonel Trebicka,Laure Elkrief,Corinna Hopf,Pablo Solís-Muñoz,Faouzi Saliba,Stefan Zeuzem,A. Risso,Julia Wendon,Carme Deulofeu,Paolo Angeli,François Durand,Marco Pavesi,Alexander L. Gerbes,Rajiv Jalan,Richard Moreau,Pere Ginès,Mauro Bernardi,Vicente Arroyo +36 more
TL;DR: Assessment of ACLF patients at 3‐7 days of the syndrome provides a tool to define the emergency of LT and a rational basis for intensive care discontinuation owing to futility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemoembolization followed by liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma impedes tumor progression while on the waiting list and leads to excellent outcome
Ivo Graziadei,Heiko Sandmueller,Peter Waldenberger,Alfred Koenigsrainer,Karin Nachbaur,Werner Jaschke,Raimund Margreiter,Wolfgang Vogel +7 more
TL;DR: Although TACE reduced tumor preoperatively, it failed to show a beneficial effect on patient survival in advanced‐stage HCCs and was associated with an excellent outcome in selected patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ART of decision making: Retreatment with transarterial chemoembolization in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
Wolfgang Sieghart,F. Hucke,Matthias Pinter,Ivo Graziadei,Wolfgang Vogel,Christian Müller,Harald Heinzl,Michael Trauner,Markus Peck-Radosavljevic +8 more
TL;DR: An ART score of ≥2.5 prior the second TACE identifies patients with a dismal prognosis who may not profit from further TACE sessions and remained significant irrespective of Child‐Pugh stage and the presence of ascites prior the first TACE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of the duodenal iron transporters divalent-metal transporter 1 and ferroportin 1 in iron deficiency and iron overload
Heinz Zoller,Robert Koch,Igor Theurl,Peter Obrist,Antonello Pietrangelo,Giuliana Montosi,David J. Haile,Wolfgang Vogel,Günter Weiss +8 more
TL;DR: DMT1 and FP1 are centrally involved in iron uptake/transfer in the duodenum and in the adaptive changes of iron homeostasis to iron deficiency and overload.
