Influence of mental motor imagery on the execution of a finger-to-thumb opposition task

TL;DR: The results show that, overall, the number and the spatial distribution of activated voxels are both increased in the S + E with respect to the E condition, showing that the motor performance preceded by mental rehearsal is related to selective increase of the cortical activity.

TL;DR: The difference between movements with and without a precise goal is interesting because it demonstrates that the longer deceleration observed when a high accuracy is required must be due to an active process for bringing the movement at the target, rather than to passive counteracting forces.
