Journal ArticleDOI

Design and management of manufacturing systems for production quality

TL;DR: In this paper, a new paradigm aiming at going beyond traditional six-sigma approaches is proposed, which is extremely relevant in technology intensive and emerging strategic manufacturing sectors, such as aeronautics, automotive, energy, medical technology, micro-manufacturing, electronics and mechatronics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lithium-ion batteries towards circular economy: A literature review of opportunities and issues of recycling treatments.

TL;DR: The current alternatives for the recycling of Lithium-ion batteries are analyzed, specifically focusing on available procedures for batteries securing and discharging, mechanical pre-treatments and materials recovery processes (i.e. pyro- and hydrometallurgical), and the pros and cons of treatments in terms of energy consumption, recovery efficiency and safety issues.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design, management and control of demanufacturing and remanufacturing systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a new generation of smart de- and remanufacturing systems showing higher levels of automation, flexibility and adaptability to changing material mixtures and values is emerging and there is a need for systematizing the existing approaches to support their operations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integrated analysis of quality and production logistics performance in manufacturing lines

TL;DR: In this article, an analytical method for evaluating the performance of production systems, jointly considering in a unique framework quality and production logistics performance measures, is presented, and the impact of the quality control action on the logistic flow of parts in the system is taken into account.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integrated quality, production logistics and maintenance analysis of multi-stage asynchronous manufacturing systems with degrading machines

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a general theory to analyze the production rate of conforming parts in manufacturing systems with progressively deteriorating machines and preventive maintenance, and show that improved system performance can be achieved by a joint analysis and design of these functions, at system level.
