Succession and management of tropical dry forests in the Americas: review and new perspectives.
Mauricio Quesada,G. Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa,Mariana Yolotl Alvarez-Añorve,Kathryn E. Stoner,Luis Daniel Avila-Cabadilla,Julio Calvo-Alvarado,Alicia Castillo,Mário M. Espírito-Santo,Marcílio Fagundes,Geraldo Wilson Fernandes,John A. Gamon,Martha Lopezaraiza-Mikel,Deborah Lawrence,Leonor Patrícia Cerdeira Morellato,Jennifer S. Powers,Frederico de Siqueira Neves,Víctor Rosas-Guerrero,Roberto Sáyago,Gumersindo Sánchez-Montoya +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the current knowledge of the ecology and management implications associated to tropical dry forest succession is presented, focusing on the use of chronosequences, plant diversity and composition, plant phenology and remote sensing, pollination, and animal-plant interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sexual differences in reproductive phenology and their consequences for the demography of Baccharis dracunculifolia (Asteraceae), a dioecious tropical shrub.
Mário M. Espírito-Santo,Bruno Gini Madeira,Frederico de Siqueira Neves,Maurício L. Faria,Marcílio Fagundes,G. Wilson Fernandes +5 more
TL;DR: The male-biased sex ratio in this population of B. dracunculifolia is probably due to different reproductive functions of males and females, and intersexual differences in reproductive phenology had consequences for plant demography.
Journal ArticleDOI
Riqueza e similaridade florística de oito remanescentes florestais no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil
Rubens Manoel dos Santos,Fábio de Almeida Vieira,Marcílio Fagundes,Yule Roberta Ferreira Nunes,Eduardo Gusmão +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors characterize and compare the floristic composition of eight fragments of Calcareous Dry Forest and Arboreal Caatinga in the north of Minas Gerais State, Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seed Size as Key Factor in Germination and Seedling Development of Copaifera langsdorffii (Fabaceae)
TL;DR: It is argued that high variability in seed size of C. langsdorffii favors its widespread geographic distribution because it favors the colonization of transient habitats and the seedling establishment in more stable habitats.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct and indirect interactions involving ants, insect herbivores, parasitoids, and the host plant Baccharis dracunculifolia (Asteraceae)
TL;DR: This study investigated the role of the direct and indirect interactions involving ants, aphids, parasitoids, and the host plant Baccharis dracunculifolia on a galling herbivore Baccharopelma drac unculifoliume.
