Objective:  Football is the predominant sport in Brazil, but a better understanding of what motivates non-football and football fans is needed. Method:  A conceptual model is empirically tested of the effects of six motivational drivers-Interest in Team, Socialisation, Aesthetics, Sport Knowledge, Interest in Sport, Vicarious Achievement-on both attitudinal and behavioural fan loyalty using survey data from 483 Brazilian sports fans. Originality/Relevance:  a theoretical gap exists as to understanding the unique motivations for Brazilian fan loyalty (Wang, Zhang, & Tsuji, 2011) and what drives Brazilian fans to attitudinally commit to a team and exhibit fan-related behaviours, such as attending matches and buying team merchandise. Results:  fans of both football and other sports in Brazil share some underlying motivational drivers of attitudinal loyalty and behavioural loyalty. They also indicate that some differences exist across the motivational drivers of attitudinal and behavioural fan loyalty. Theoretical/methodological contributions:  Results from this study support previous research into the influence of motivations on attitudinal loyalty and behavioural loyalty and offer insights into the direct influence of different motivations on attitudinal loyalty and behavioural loyalty. Social/management contributions:  these findings will assist sports-marketing practitioners of sports competing with football in Brazil to formulate more effective, fan-centric marketing-communication strategies leading to a larger loyal fan base.

Gooool: motivation drivers of attitudinal and behavioral fan loyalty in Brazil

Middle ear cholesteatoma (MEC), is a destructive, and locally invasive lesion in the middle ear driven by inflammation with an annual incidence of 10 per 100,000. Surgical extraction/excision remains the only treatment strategy available and recurrence is high (up to 40%), therefore developing the first pharmaceutical treatments for MEC is desperately required. This review was targeted at connecting the dysregulated inflammatory network of MEC to pathogenesis and identification of pharmaceutical targets. We summarized the numerous basic research endeavors undertaken over the last 30+ years to identify the key targets in the dysregulated inflammatory pathways and judged the level of evidence for a given target if it was generated by in vitro, in vivo or clinical experiments. MEC pathogenesis was found to be connected to cytokines characteristic for Th1, Th17 and M1 cells. In addition, we found that the inflammation created damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which further promoted inflammation. Similar positive feedback loops have already been described for other Th1/Th17 driven inflammatory diseases (arthritis, Crohn's disease or multiple sclerosis). A wide-ranging search for molecular targeted therapies (MTT) led to the discovery of over a hundred clinically approved drugs already applied in precision medicine. Based on exclusion criteria designed to enable fast translation as well as efficacy, we condensed the numerous MTTs down to 13 top drugs. The review should serve as groundwork for the primary goal, which is to provide potential pharmaceutical therapies to MEC patients for the first time in history. Review of potential medical treatments for middle ear cholesteatoma

Persistent apical periodontitis is a critical challenge for endodontists. Developing root canal filling materials with continuous antibacterial effects and tightly sealed root canals are essential strategies to avoid the failure of root canal therapy and prevent persistent apical periodontitis. We modified the EndoREZ root canal sealer with the antibacterial material dimethylaminododecyl methacrylate (DMADDM) and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The mechanical properties of the modified root canal sealer were tested. The biocompatibility of this sealer was verified in vitro and in vivo. Multispecies biofilms were constructed to assess the antibacterial effects of the modified root canal sealer. We applied magnetic fields and examined the extent of root canal sealer penetration in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that EndoREZ sealer containing 2.5% DMADDM and 1% MNP had biological safety and apical sealing ability. In addition, the modified sealer could increase the sealer penetration range and exert significant antibacterial effects on multispecies biofilms under an external magnetic field. According to the in vivo study, the apices of the root canals with the sealer containing 2.5% DMADDM and 1% MNP showed no significant resorption and exhibited only a slight increase in the periodontal ligament space, with a good inhibitory effect on persistent apical periodontitis.

The Preventive Effect of A Magnetic Nanoparticle-Modified Root Canal Sealer on Persistent Apical Periodontitis

The present study aimed to assess whether contextual influences on practice of physical activity and sports among adolescents – as it is the case of practice of sports by important people in their lives, encouragement to playing sports from important people in their lives, the importance of and reasons for playing sports among adolescents, and their intention to play sports in the future – predict psychological wellbeing and life satisfaction in this population, and whether effective practice of physical activity and sports by adolescents work as a mediating variable in these relations. This study involved 3.396 school-aged adolescents from Southern Brazil. The instruments adopted were: the block on physical activity and practice of sports of The Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey; the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), for psychological wellbeing assessment; and the Overall Life Satisfaction (OLS). The results, obtained by means of hierarchical linear regression analysis, confirmed the hypotheses that effective practice of physical activity and sports by adolescents operates as a mediator between the influences on practice of physical activity/sports among adolescents, psychological wellbeing and life satisfaction. These results show that, with respect to practice of physical activity/sports in adolescence, contextual influences are important for psychological wellbeing and life satisfaction. However, effective practice of physical activity/sports should be encouraged and implemented in a variety of possible contexts in the life of adolescents as a strategy towards the promotion of this population’s quality of life.

Predictors of Physical Activity and Sports and Their Influence on the Wellbeing of Adolescents

O estudo objetivou analisar a percepção dos praticantes de atividades esportivas sobre a gestão do esporte da Universidade Federal de Viçosa, a luz do contexto histórico, do processo de gestão dos atores públicos, dos financiamentos e das atividades competitivas, recreativas e educacionais. Para este trabalho foram distribuídos 82 questionários entre a comunidade acadêmica para coleta de dados primários e ainda foi feita pesquisa documental como dado secundário. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se de estatística descritiva para tratar as questões objetivas e as questões abertas foram interpretadas a partir de Análise de Conteúdo, usando o software de análise lexical Iramuteq. Foi possível observar a UFV dispõe de atividades e projetos esportivos para a sua comunidade acadêmica, viabilizando também o espaço físico para a prática esportiva. Os respondentes consideram a UFV pouco transparente, mas em contrapartida não utilizam suas cadeiras nos colegiados. Por fim, os respondentes consideram a gestão do esporte da UFV regular, com pontos positivos e negativos. O trabalho contribui para discussões acerca da gestão na Administração Pública trazendo contribuições teóricas sobre o esporte universitário, sobre o planejamento institucional de uma Universidade Pública e sobre a participação da comunidade acadêmica no processo de controle social. O presente artigo se apresenta ainda como um importante trabalho empírico que visa descrever a gestão do esporte universitário a partir da percepção dos praticantes esportivos, trazendo características da autonomia universitária.

Gestão do esporte universitário: o caso da Universidade Federal de Viçosa

A motivacao e um dos fatores considerado entre os mais importantes para a pratica esportiva escolar e ate mesmo para a iniciacao esportiva, principalmente na fase da infância e da adolescencia. A pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar quais sao os fatores que motivam os adolescentes na pratica esportiva no âmbito escolar. Contribuiram para o estudo 40 adolescentes de 16 a 18 anos de ambos os sexos do 3o ano do ensino medio de uma escola publica do municipio de Japira – Pr. O instrumento de avaliacao utilizado foi o inventario de Motivacao para Pratica Desportiva de Gaya e Cardoso (1998) que classifica os fatores motivacionais em tres categorias: competencia desportiva, saude e amizade/lazer. Os resultados indicaram que a competencia desportiva saude seguida pela competencia amizade/lazer foram as mais valorizadas pelos adolescentes. A analise dos dados revelou que atualmente os adolescentes nao estao ligados somente a competicoes e ao alto rendimento, porem estao ligados a desenvolver habilidades, estao abertos a aprender novas modalidades esportivas, visando o bem estar e a qualidade de vida. ABSTRACT Motivational factors for sport practice in teens 3rd year of secondary education The motivation is one of the factors considered between the more important for the school sports practice and even for a sports initiation, specially in the fase of the childhood and of the adolescence. The research has by objective to identify which are the factors that motivate the adolescents in practice sports in the ambit educational. Contributed for the study 40 adolescents of 16 at 18 years of both sex of 3rd grade of High School of a Public School of the city of Japira-Pr. The instrument of evaluation utilized was the inventory of Motivation for Sports Practice of Gaya and Cardoso (1998) that ranks the factors motivational in three categories: sport competence, health and friendship/leisure were the most valorized by adolescents. The analysis of the data revealed that currently the adolescents are not connected to develop abilities, are open to learn new sports modalities, aiming the well-being and the quality of life.

Fatores motivacionais para a prática esportiva em adolescentes do 3º ano do Ensino Médio

To compare the expression of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B (RANK), matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) in primary chronic apical periodontitis lesions (CAPLs) between people living with HIV (PLWHIV) undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART) and HIV- individuals, 32 CAPLs (16 lesions from each group) were submitted to histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses and compared between groups. The majority of the PLWHIV group had undetectable plasma viral loads (n = 13; 81.3%). The means of TCD4+ lymphocytes, exposure to HIV-1 and the time of the use of ART were 542.1 cells/mm3 (SD = 256.4), 6.3 years (SD = 2.9) and 5.0 years (SD = 2.5), respectively. Of all variables studied, only histopathological diagnosis showed a significant difference between groups (LWHIV: granuloma n = 11 (68.0%); cyst n = 5 (31.2%); HIV-: granuloma n = 15 (93.8%); cyst n = 1 (6.2%); p = 0.015). When comparing the expressions of the three inflammatory markers between the groups, no significant differences were seen. There was no difference in the expression of RANK, PTHrP and MMP-9 in primary chronic apical periodontitis lesions between PLWHIV under ART and HIV- individuals.
