Journal ArticleDOI
The gene encoding ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 is mutated in Tangier disease
Marek Bodzioch,Evelyn Orsó,Jochen Klucken,Thomas Langmann,Alfred Böttcher,Wendy Diederich,Wolfgang Drobnik,Stefan Barlage,Christa Büchler,Mustafa Porsch-Özcürümez,Wolfgang E. Kaminski,Harry W. Hahmann,Kurt Oette,Gregor Rothe,Charalampos Aslanidis,Karl J. Lackner,Gerd Schmitz +16 more
TL;DR: Evidence is presented that TD is caused by mutations in ABC1, encoding a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family, located on chromosome 9q22–31, which has implications for the understanding of cellular HDL metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport, and its association with premature cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variants in the gene encoding ATP-binding cassette transporter 1 in men with low HDL cholesterol levels and coronary heart disease.
Margaret E. Brousseau,Marek Bodzioch,Ernst J. Schaefer,Allison L. Goldkamp,Danuta Kielar,Mario Probst,Jose M. Ordovas,Charalampos Aslanidis,Karl J. Lackner,Hanna Bloomfield Rubins,Dorothea Collins,Sander J. Robins,Peter W.F. Wilson,Gerd Schmitz +13 more
TL;DR: None of the variants were significantly associated with plasma HDL-C concentrations in either population; however, in VA-HIT, the G3456C variant was associated with a significantly increased risk for CHD end points, suggesting a role for this variant in the premature CHD observed in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for potential functionality of nuclearly-encoded humanin isoforms
Marek Bodzioch,Katarzyna Lapicka-Bodzioch,Barbara Zapała,Wojciech Kamysz,Beata Kieć-Wilk,Aldona Dembinska-Kiec +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the existence of 13 mt-RNR2-like nuclear loci predicted to maintain the open reading frames of 15 distinct full-length HN-like peptides was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) in macrophages: a dual function in inflammation and lipid metabolism?
Gerd Schmitz,Wolfgang E. Kaminski,Mustafa Porsch-Özcürümez,Jochen Klucken,Evelyn Orsó,Marek Bodzioch,Christa Büchler,Wolfgang Drobnik +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter ABCA1 is induced during differentiation of human monocytes into macrophages, indicating a dual regulatory function for ABCA 1 in macrophage lipid metabolism and inflammation.
Journal Article
The selected pathophysiological aspects of ppars activation
Beata Kieć-Wilk,Aldona Dembinska-Kiec,Agnieszka Olszanecka,Marek Bodzioch,Kalina Kawecka-Jaszcz +4 more
TL;DR: Evidence and hypotheses about the new pathophysiological aspects of PPARs activation are reviewed and it is shown that both PPARa and PPARg activation reveal cardio-protective effect in hypertension-induced cardiac hypertrophy.
