A Multistate Outbreak of Escherichia coli O157:H7—Associated Bloody Diarrhea and Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome From Hamburgers: The Washington Experience
Beth P. Bell,Marcia Goldoft,Patricia M. Griffin,Margaret A. Davis,Diane C. Gordon,Phillip I. Tarr,Charles A. Bartleson,Jay H. Lewis,Timothy J. Barrett,Joy G. Wells,Roy C. Baron,John M. Kobayashi +11 more
TL;DR: This E coli O157:H7 outbreak, the largest reported, resulted from errors in meat processing and cooking and measures should be developed to reduce meat contamination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis as a Tool for Determining the Degree of Genetic Relatedness between Strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7
TL;DR: The findings of the present study indicate that if genetic relationships must be inferred in the absence of epidemiologic data, six or more restriction enzymes would be needed to provide a reasonable estimate using PFGE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Update: Multistate outbreak of Escherichia coli O157:H7 infections from hamburgers - Western United States, 1992-1993

Salmonella enterica Serotype 4,5,12:i:−, an Emerging Salmonella Serotype That Represents Multiple Distinct Clones
Yeşim Soyer,A. Moreno Switt,Margaret A. Davis,John J. Maurer,Patrick L. McDonough,Dianna Schoonmaker-Bopp,Nellie B. Dumas,Timothy P. Root,Lorin D. Warnick,Yrjö T. Gröhn,Martin Wiedmann +10 more
TL;DR: Salmonella serotype 4,5,12:i:− appears to represent at least two common clones, which cannot easily be differentiated with standard diagnostic procedures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in antimicrobial resistance among Salmonella enterica Serovar typhimurium isolates from humans and cattle in the Northwestern United States, 1982-1997.
Margaret A. Davis,Dale D. Hancock,Thomas E. Besser,Daniel H. Rice,Lynne Gearhart,Ronald F. DiGiacomo +5 more
TL;DR: Antimicrobial resistance patterns of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium of isolates from humans and cattle in the Pacific Northwest from 1982 through 1997 are compared.
