Volcanic carbon dioxide vents show ecosystem effects of ocean acidification
Jason M. Hall-Spencer,Riccardo Rodolfo-Metalpa,Sophie Martin,Emma Ransome,Maoz Fine,Suzanne M. Turner,Sonia J. Rowley,Dario Tedesco,Maria Cristina Buia +8 more
TL;DR: The species populating the vent sites comprise a suite of organisms that are resilient to naturally high concentrations of pCO2 and indicate that ocean acidification may benefit highly invasive non-native algal species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of ocean acidification on macroalgal communities
TL;DR: The data show that many macroalgal species are tolerant of long-term elevations in CO2 levels but that Macroalgal habitats are altered significantly as pH drops, contributing to a scant but growing body of evidence concerning the long- term effects of CO2 emissions in vegetated marine systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Descriptors of Posidonia oceanica meadows: Use and application

TL;DR: This paper synthesises the existing methods applied to monitor P. oceanica meadows, identifies the most suitable techniques and suggests future research directions, and shows the interest of a practical guide that describes, in a standardized way, the most useful techniques enabling P. Oceanica meadow to be used as an environmental descriptor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reproductive phenology of the Mediterranean seagrasses Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile, Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Aschers., and Zostera noltii Hornem.
TL;DR: The reproductive cycles of Posidonia oceanica and C. nodosa seem to be related to the annual temperature range rather than to other environmental parameters, and the different reproductive strategies adopted by each species are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatio-temporal distribution of algal and animal communities in a Posidonia oceanica meadow
TL;DR: A superficial community at I m, characterized by a low number of species and individuals and specialized for high environmental energy levels, and a deeper community, persistent in time and more strictly related to the Posidonia oceanica meadows, are identified.
