Role of T1 mapping as a complementary tool to T2* for non-invasive cardiac iron overload assessment
Camilla Torlasco,Elena Cassinerio,Alberto Roghi,Andrea Faini,Marco Capecchi,Amna Abdel-Gadir,Cristina Giannattasio,Gianfranco Parati,James C. Moon,Maria Domenica Cappellini,Patrizia Pedrotti +10 more
TL;DR: Data from a prospectively large single centre study of 138 Thalassemia Major patients and 32 healthy controls support previous suggestions that T1 detects missed iron in 1 out of 3 subjects with normal T2*, and that T 1 mapping is complementary to T2*.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges Associated With Prolonged Survival of Patients With Thalassemia: Transitioning From Childhood to Adulthood
TL;DR: Although recent advances in the treatment of thalassemia can prolong patient life spans, problems may arise when patients are transferred from pediatric health care settings to adult health care sets, and recommendations for handling them are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Iron overload across the spectrum of non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemias: role of erythropoiesis, splenectomy and transfusions.
John B. Porter,Maria Domenica Cappellini,Antonis Kattamis,Vip Viprakasit,Khaled M. Musallam,Zewen Zhu,Ali T. Taher +6 more
TL;DR: Increased NTBI and, by implication, risk of extra‐hepatic iron distribution are more likely in previously transfused, splenectomised and iron‐overloaded NTDT patients with TfSat >70%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bone demineralization in adult thalassaemic patients: contribution of GH and IGF-I at different skeletal sites.
Massimo Scacchi,Leila Danesi,Agnese Cattaneo,Elena Valassi,Francesca Pecori Giraldi,Crocetta Argento,Emanuela D'Angelo,Nadia Mirra,Vittorio Carnelli,Laura Zanaboni,Benedetta Tampieri,Maria Domenica Cappellini,Francesco Cavagnini +12 more
TL;DR: The possible role of GH–IGF‐I abnormalities in the pathogenesis of the osteopenia/osteoporosis of this disease is studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of food, type of food, and time of food intake on deferasirox bioavailability: recommendations for an optimal deferasirox administration regimen
Renzo Galanello,Antonio Piga,Maria Domenica Cappellini,Gian Luca Forni,Antonella Zappu,Raffaella Origa,Catherine Dutreix,Rossella Belleli,John Ford,Gilles J. Riviere,Sebastien Balez,Daniele Alberti,Romain Sechaud +12 more
TL;DR: The data show that the type of food, caloric content, and fat content of the meal influence the bioavailability of deferasirox when consumed concomitantly, but this is not the case when defer asirox is administered at least 30 minutes before a meal.
