Journal ArticleDOI

The production of superoxide anion radicals in the reaction of reduced flavins and flavoproteins with molecular oxygen

TL;DR: In contrast to the results with the intact enzyme, the reduction of cytochrome c by deflavoxanthine oxidase is not inhibited by erythrocuprein, indicating that the site of production of O2•− in the native enzyme is flavin, rather than non-heme iron.
Journal ArticleDOI

The reactivity of flavoproteins with sulfite. Possible relevance to the problem of oxygen reactivity.

TL;DR: The correlation is made that those enzymes which react readily with sulfite are those which react catalytically with oxygen as a hydrogen acceptor; no sulfite reaction was found with flavoprotein dehydrogenases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and characterization of glycolic acid oxidase from pig liver.

TL;DR: The unusual absorption spectrum of pig liver glycolic acid oxidase and possibly other glycoli acid oxidases is due, at least in part, to anion binding, the presence of the unidentified green chromophore, and autogenous bleaching.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of anions on the catalytic activity of pig liver glycolic acid oxidase

TL;DR: Results suggest that electrostatic and hydrophobic forces contribute to the binding affinity of monocarboxylic acids, and conditions under which non-competitive inhibition can approximate competitive inhibition are discussed to account for differences in the inhibition patterns observed when glycolate and glyoxalate are used as the variable substrate.
