Perioperative Management of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Receiving a Direct Oral Anticoagulant
James D. Douketis,Alex C. Spyropoulos,Joanne Duncan,Marc Carrier,Grégoire Le Gal,Alfonso Tafur,Thomas Vanassche,Peter Verhamme,Sudeep Shivakumar,Peter L. Gross,Agnes Y.Y. Lee,Erik Yeo,Susan Solymoss,Jeannine Kassis,Geneviève Le Templier,Stephen Kowalski,Mark Blostein,Vinay Shah,Elizabeth MacKay,Cynthia Wu,Nathan P. Clark,Shannon M. Bates,Frederick A. Spencer,Eleni Arnaoutoglou,Michiel Coppens,Donald M. Arnold,Joseph A. Caprini,Na Li,Karen A. Moffat,Summer Syed,Sam Schulman +30 more
TL;DR: Patients with atrial fibrillation who had DOAC therapy interruption for elective surgery or procedure, a perioperative management strategy without heparin bridging or coagulation function testing was associated with low rates of major bleeding and arterial thromboembolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periostin, a Member of a Novel Family of Vitamin K-dependent Proteins, Is Expressed by Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
Daniel L. Coutu,Daniel L. Coutu,Jian Hui Wu,Anne Monette,Anne Monette,Georges-Etienne Rivard,Mark Blostein,Mark Blostein,Jacques Galipeau,Jacques Galipeau +9 more
TL;DR: Periostin is a member of a novel vitamin K-dependent γ-carboxylated protein family characterized by the presence of fasciclin domains, and is abundantly found in mineralized bone nodules in vitro.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oral Vitamin K Versus Placebo to Correct Excessive Anticoagulation in Patients Receiving Warfarin: A Randomized Trial
Mark Crowther,Walter Ageno,David A. Garcia,Luqi Wang,Daniel M. Witt,Nathan P. Clark,Mark Blostein,Susan R. Kahn,Sara K. Vesely,Sam Schulman,Michael J. Kovacs,Marc A. Rodger,P. S. Wells,David Anderson,Jeffery Ginsberg,Rita Selby,Sergio Siragusa,Mauro Silingardi,Mary Beth Dowd,Clive Kearon +19 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that bleeding events would be reduced was based on the previously published, smaller studies of low-dose oral vitamin K administered to various patient groups, and it was found that a consistent and rapid decrease in the INR after low- dose vitamin K was administered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perioperative Management of Dabigatran A Prospective Cohort Study
Sam Schulman,Marc Carrier,Agnes Y.Y. Lee,Sudeep Shivakumar,Mark Blostein,Frederick A. Spencer,Susan Solymoss,Rebecca Barty,Grace Wang,Nancy M. Heddle,James D. Douketis +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the safety of perioperative management of dabigatran using a specified protocol, where the timing of the last dose before the procedure was based on the creatinine clearance and procedure-related bleeding risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of gamma-carboxylation in the anti-apoptotic function of gas6.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that γ‐carboxylation is necessary not only for gas6 binding to phospholipid membranes, but also for gas4‐mediated endothelial cell survival and that only carboxylated gas6 protects endothelial cells from serum starvation‐induced apoptosis.
