Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of response rates and cost-effectiveness for a community-based survey: postal, internet and telephone modes with generic or personalised recruitment approaches
Martha Irvine Sinclair,Joanne Elizabeth O'Toole,Joanne Elizabeth O'Toole,Manori Geetanjali Malawaraarachchi,Karin Leder +4 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that postal surveys currently remain the most economic option for population-based studies, with similar costs for personalised and generic approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized, blinded, controlled trial investigating the gastrointestinal health effects of drinking water quality
TL;DR: A double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial was carried out in Melbourne, Australia, to determine the contribution of drinking water to gastroenteritis, and found no evidence of waterborne disease in Melbourne.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct comparison of selected methods for genetic categorisation of Cryptosporidium parvum and Cryptosporidium hominis species.
Rachel M. Chalmers,Christobel Ferguson,Simone M. Cacciò,Robin B. Gasser,Youssef G. Abs EL-Osta,Leo Heijnen,Lihua Xiao,Kristin Elwin,Stephen J. Hadfield,Martha Irvine Sinclair,Melita A. Stevens +10 more
TL;DR: This trial provided, for the first time, a direct comparison of multiple methods for the genetic characterisation of C. parvum and C. hominis samples and found SSCP analysis of ITS-2 to have superior utility and determined 'subgenotypes' in samples containing DNA from both species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin E supplementation and cataract: randomized controlled trial.
John J McNeil,Luba D Robman,Gabriella Tikellis,Martha Irvine Sinclair,Catherine A. McCarty,Catherine A. McCarty,Hugh R. Taylor +6 more
TL;DR: Vitamin E given for 4 years at a dose of 500 IU daily did not reduce the incidence of or progression of nuclear, cortical, or posterior subcapsular cataract and these findings do not support the use of vitamin E to prevent the development or to slow the progression of age-related cataracts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Roy M. Robins-Browne,A M Bordun,Marija Tauschek,Vicki Bennett-Wood,Jacinta Russell,Frances Oppedisano,N. A. Lister,Karl A. Bettelheim,Christopher K Fairley,Martha Irvine Sinclair,Margaret Hellard +10 more
