Sempos,Ramon Durazo-Arvizu,Zuzana Škrabáková,Kirsten G. Dowling,Kevin D. Cashman,Mairead Kiely,Stefan Pilz,Stefan Pilz +47 more
TL;DR: An association between low 25(OH)D and increased risk of all-cause mortality is observed and it is of public health interest to evaluate whether treatment of vitamin D deficiency prevents premature deaths.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin D and cardiovascular disease prevention
Stefan Pilz,Nicolas Verheyen,Martin R. Grübler,Martin R. Grübler,Andreas Tomaschitz,Winfried März +5 more
TL;DR: Current available evidence does not support cardiovascular benefits or harms of vitamin D supplementation with the commonly used doses, and whether vitamin D has cardiovascular effects in individuals with overt vitamin D deficiency remains to be evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rationale and plan for vitamin D food fortification: A review and guidance paper
Stefan Pilz,Winfried März,Winfried März,Kevin D. Cashman,Mairead Kiely,Susan J. Whiting,Michael F. Holick,William B. Grant,Paweł Płudowski,Mickaël Hiligsmann,Christian Trummer,Verena Schwetz,Elisabeth Lerchbaum,Marlene Pandis,Andreas Tomaschitz,Martin R. Grübler,Martin Gaksch,Nicolas Verheyen,Bruce W. Calvo,Natasja M. van Schoor,Roger Bouillon,Paul Lips,Suvi T. Itkonen,Adrian R. Martineau,Christel Lamberg-Allardt,Armin Zittermann +35 more
TL;DR: Systematic vitamin D food fortification is an effective approach to improve vitamin D status in the general population and this has already been introduced by countries such as the US, Canada, India, and Finland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-skeletal health effects of vitamin D supplementation: A systematic review on findings from meta-analyses summarizing trial data.
Lars Rejnmark,Lise Sofie Bislev,Kevin D. Cashman,Gudny Eiriksdottir,Martin Gaksch,Martin R. Grübler,Martin R. Grübler,Guri Grimnes,Vilmundur Gudnason,Paul Lips,Stefan Pilz,Natasja M. van Schoor,Mairead Kiely,Rolf Jorde +13 more
TL;DR: The fact that most MAs on results from RCTs did not show a beneficial effect does not disprove the hypothesis suggested by observational findings on adverse health outcomes of low 25OHD levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vitamin D testing and treatment: a narrative review of current evidence.
Stefan Pilz,Armin Zittermann,Christian Trummer,Verena Theiler-Schwetz,Elisabeth Lerchbaum,Martin H Keppel,Martin R. Grübler,Winfried März,Winfried März,Winfried März,Marlene Pandis +10 more
TL;DR: An update on vitamin D guidelines and the current evidence on the role of vitamin D for human health with its subsequent implications for patient care and public health issues is provided.
