Journal ArticleDOI
High-speed plasmonic modulator in a single metal layer
Masafumi Ayata,Yuriy Fedoryshyn,Wolfgang Heni,Benedikt Baeuerle,Arne Josten,Marco Zahner,Ueli Koch,Yannick Salamin,Claudia Hoessbacher,Christian Haffner,Delwin L. Elder,Larry R. Dalton,Juerg Leuthold +12 more
TL;DR: The results show that plasmonics is indeed a viable path to an ultracompact, highest-speed, and low-cost technology that might find many applications in a wide range of fields of sensing and communications because it is compatible with and can be placed on a wide variety of materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perpendicular Grating Coupler Based on a Blazed Antiback-Reflection Structure
TL;DR: In this paper, a vertical grating coupler with high directionality and low back-reflection was realized using a blazed subwavelength structure, and the measured maximum coupling efficiencies with a standard single-mfiber were −1.5 dB and −2.2 dB for apodized and periodic structures, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
A monolithic bipolar CMOS electronic–plasmonic high-speed transmitter
Ueli Koch,Christopher Uhl,Horst Hettrich,Yuriy Fedoryshyn,Claudia Hoessbacher,Wolfgang Heni,Benedikt Baeuerle,Bertold Ian Bitachon,Arne Josten,Masafumi Ayata,Huajun Xu,Delwin L. Elder,Larry R. Dalton,Elad Mentovich,Paraskevas Bakopoulos,Stefan Lischke,A. Kruger,Lars Zimmermann,Lars Zimmermann,Dimitris Tsiokos,Nikos Pleros,Michael Moller,Juerg Leuthold +22 more
TL;DR: A monolithically integrated electro-optical transmitter that can achieve symbol rates beyond 100 GBd is reported, and addresses key challenges in monolithic integration through co-design of the electronic and plasmonic layers, including thermal design, packaging and a nonlinear organic Electro-optic material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep learning based digital backpropagation demonstrating SNR gain at low complexity in a 1200 km transmission link
Bertold Ian Bitachon,Amirhossein Ghazisaeidi,Marco Eppenberger,Benedikt Baeurle,Masafumi Ayata,Juerg Leuthold +5 more
TL;DR: Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme is suitable to deal with impairments from transmission over longer distances and it is sufficient to update the elements of the DL network using a signal with high nonlinearity when dispersion or non linearity conditions changes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultra-Compact Terabit Plasmonic Modulator Array
Ueli Koch,Andreas Messner,Claudia Hoessbacher,Wolfgang Heni,Arne Josten,Benedikt Baeuerle,Masafumi Ayata,Yuriy Fedoryshyn,Delwin L. Elder,Larry R. Dalton,Juerg Leuthold +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new plasmonic transmitter solution offering 0.8 Tbit/s on an ultra-compact 90 µm × 5.5 µm footprint is introduced.
