Journal ArticleDOI
Consuming fructose-sweetened, not glucose-sweetened, beverages increases visceral adiposity and lipids and decreases insulin sensitivity in overweight/obese humans
Kimber L. Stanhope,Jean-Marc Schwarz,Jean-Marc Schwarz,Nancy L. Keim,Steven C. Griffen,Andrew A. Bremer,James L. Graham,Bonnie Hatcher,Chad L. Cox,Artem Dyachenko,Wei Zhang,John P. McGahan,Anthony Seibert,Ronald M. Krauss,Sally Chiu,Ernst J. Schaefer,Masumi Ai,Seiko Otokozawa,Katsuyuki Nakajima,Katsuyuki Nakajima,Takamitsu Nakano,Carine Beysen,Marc K. Hellerstein,Lars Berglund,Peter J. Havel +24 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that dietary fructose specifically increases DNL, promotes dyslipidemia, decreases insulin sensitivity, and increases visceral adiposity in overweight/obese adults.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers for Insulin Resistance and Inflammation and the Risk for All-Cause Dementia and Alzheimer Disease: Results From the Framingham Heart Study
Thomas M. van Himbergen,Alexa S. Beiser,Masumi Ai,Sudha Seshadri,Sudha Seshadri,Seiko Otokozawa,Rhoda Au,Rhoda Au,Nuntakorn Thongtang,Philip A. Wolf,Philip A. Wolf,Ernst J. Schaefer +11 more
TL;DR: In women, increased plasma adiponectin levels are an independent risk factor for the development of both all-cause dementia and AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small Dense LDL Cholesterol and Coronary Heart Disease: Results from the Framingham Offspring Study
Masumi Ai,Seiko Otokozawa,Bela F. Asztalos,Yasuki Ito,Katsuyuki Nakajima,Charles C. White,L. Adrienne Cupples,Peter W.F. Wilson,Ernst J. Schaefer +8 more
TL;DR: Although women with CHD had higher sdLDL-C concentrations than controls, this difference was not seen in men, and some of the high residual risk of future CHD events in CHD patients had mean LDL-C concentration above the goal of <2.6 mmol/L (<100 mg/dL).
Journal ArticleDOI
Postprandial lipoprotein metabolism: VLDL vs chylomicrons.
Katsuyuki Nakajima,Takamitsu Nakano,Yoshiharu Tokita,Takeaki Nagamine,Akihiro Inazu,Junji Kobayashi,Hiroshi Mabuchi,Kimber L. Stanhope,Peter J. Havel,Mitsuyo Okazaki,Masumi Ai,Masumi Ai,Akira Tanaka,Akira Tanaka +13 more
TL;DR: The major portion of the TG which is increased in the postprandial state is composed of VLDL remnants, which have been recognized as a significant risk for cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Utility of glycated albumin for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus in a Japanese population study: results from the Kyushu and Okinawa Population Study (KOPS)
Norihiro Furusyo,T Koga,Masumi Ai,Masumi Ai,Seiko Otokozawa,Takuji Kohzuma,Hiroaki Ikezaki,Ernst J. Schaefer,Jun Hayashi +8 more
TL;DR: This article determined reference values for glycated albumin, and assessed its utility for the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the general population, and determined the utility of albumin as a measure of the mean plasma glucose concentration over approximately 2-3 weeks.
