The natural history of compensated cirrhosis due to hepatitis C virus: A 17‐year cohort study of 214 patients
Angelo Sangiovanni,G.M. Prati,P. Fasani,Guido Ronchi,Raffaella Romeo,Matteo Angelo Manini,Ersilio Del Ninno,Alberto Morabito,Massimo Colombo +8 more
TL;DR: HCC was the main cause of death, the first complication to develop and the dominant cause for increased mortality, and hepatitis C–related cirrhosis is a slowly progressive disease that may be accelerated by other potential causes of liver disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The diagnostic and economic impact of contrast imaging techniques in the diagnosis of small hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis
Angelo Sangiovanni,Matteo Angelo Manini,Massimo Iavarone,Raffaella Romeo,Laura Forzenigo,Mirella Fraquelli,Sara Massironi,Cristina Della Corte,Guido Ronchi,Maria Grazia Rumi,Piero Biondetti,Massimo Colombo +11 more
TL;DR: In patients with cirrhosis with a 1–2 cm nodule detected during surveillance, a single imaging technique showing a typical contrast pattern confidently permits the diagnosis of HCC, thereby reducing the need for FNB examinations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contrast ultrasound LI-RADS LR-5 identifies hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis in a multicenter restropective study of 1,006 nodules
Eleonora Terzi,Massimo Iavarone,Maurizio Pompili,Letizia Veronese,Giuseppe Cabibbo,Mirella Fraquelli,Laura Riccardi,Ludovico De Bonis,Angelo Sangiovanni,Simona Leoni,Maria Assunta Zocco,Sandro Rossi,N. Alessi,Stephanie R. Wilson,Fabio Piscaglia,Alessandro Granito,Veronica Salvatore,Francesco Tovoli,Matteo Angelo Manini,Gian Lodovico Rapaccini,Maria Elena Ainora,Valentina Ravetta,Giorgia Ghittoni,Agostino Ventra,Giuseppe Mogavero +24 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the refined definition of the typical contrast enhanced ultrasound pattern of HCC introduced by the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) practically abolishes the risk of misdiagnosis of other malignant entities (e.g. cholangiocarcinoma) for HCC with negligible reduction in sensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and economical impact of 2010 AASLD guidelines for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
Matteo Angelo Manini,Angelo Sangiovanni,Fabio Fornari,Fabio Piscaglia,Marco Biolato,Libera Fanigliulo,Elisa Ravaldi,Antonio Grieco,Massimo Colombo +8 more
TL;DR: A sequential study with either CT or MRI enhances the radiological diagnosis of HCC and reduces costs and liver biopsy need.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preliminary experience on safety of regorafenib after sorafenib failure in recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation
Massimo Iavarone,Federica Invernizzi,Carolin Czauderna,Marco Sanduzzi-Zamparelli,Sherrie Bhoori,Giuliana Amaddeo,Matteo Angelo Manini,Miguel Fraile López,Margarita Anders,Matthias Pinter,Maria Jose Blanco Rodríguez,Mario Romero Cristóbal,Gabriel Aballay Soteras,Federico Piñero,Gerda Elisabeth Villadsen,Arndt Weinmann,Gonzalo Crespo,Vincenzo Mazzaferro,Helene Regnault,Massimo De Giorgio,María Luisa González-Diéguez,Maria Francesca Donato,Maria Varela,Marcus-Alexander Wörns,Jordi Bruix,Pietro Lampertico,Maria Reig +26 more
TL;DR: This is the first study showing safety of regorafenib after LT, thus providing the rational of considering regoracenib in the clinical decision‐making in sorafenIB‐tolerant patients with HCC recurrence after liver transplantation (LT).
