Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid mobilization of Ca2+ from rat insulinoma microsomes by inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate.

TL;DR: It is shown directly that Ins1,4,5P3 rapidly releases Ca2+ from a microsomal fraction of rat insulinoma but not from mitochondria or secretory granules, suggesting that Ins2+ mobilization from internal pools is not mediated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Smooth muscle cell calcium activation mechanisms

TL;DR: The changes in membrane potential induced by these cytosolic oscillators does not drive contraction directly but it functions to couple together individual oscillators to provide the synchronization that is a characteristic feature of many tonic SMCs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spontaneous calcium release from inositol trisphosphate-sensitive calcium stores

TL;DR: It is reported here that the InsP3-sensitive store in hepatocytes discharges spontaneously when overloaded with Ca2+.
Journal ArticleDOI

A tale of two messengers

Journal ArticleDOI

Calcium hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: The calcium hypothesis of AD explores how activation of the amyloidogenic pathway may function to remodel the neuronal Ca2+ signaling pathways responsible for cognition to result in the learning and memory deficits that occur early during the onset of AD.
